So, i have terminal services set up so i can control one of my computers running windows 2000 server with my XP but I can only get it to work if i'm on the same network.... how do I control it if I am far away?

I noticed there is a "Domain" thing box I can use... what shall I type in there? My IP?

We need more information. If your Windows 2000 server has an external IP address, you can type that in from another network and you should be able to connect to it. If you are behind a router, and your Windows 2000 Server has a NAT'd IP address, then you will need to setup some type of port forwarding to forward Port 3389 to the IP address of your Windows 2000 Server.

In a domainless environment, which I'm assuming you have, then the domain name to use is simply the computer name of the box you are connecting to. Also, make sure you've given the account you are using dialin access privledges.

You need to open up port 3389 on your router and have it foward that port to the network IP address of the 2000 server. Next you need to open up Remote desktop connection in XP and type in the internet IP address that you have your router sharing. If the port is forwarding to your server, then it should connect.
