I've known for a while that Turkey strongly opposes a Kurdish state in northern Iraq or any sort of control of the Kirkuk area that might lead to such a state. However, I didnt expect this from them despite the situation over there. I wonder how this one is going to turn out.

What did the Turks do to the Kurds to make them fear what the Kurds will do if they ever have any power?

Do the Kurds want some sort of revenge?

Oh the Turks have routinely slaughtered Kurds on par with atrocities by Iraq and intermittently Iran. If the Iraqi Kurds get a foothold in northern Iraq crude they might have enough cheddar to do independent. As an independent state they would likely advocate unification with the millions of Kurds in Turkey (and northern Iran). While the US preaches about self-determination, a united Kurdistan would plunge Turkey into war and destroy the pipe dream of a unified Iraq.

a big part of eastern Turkey is populated by Kurds, a kurdish state right next door would create a problem

I also think its racism in that they view kurds as lesser or inferior considering the state of Kurds in Turkey (that was the main obstacle in accepting turkey into EU)

But The Turks should get the F out of Iraq and I don't see why they should be there....I hope any "sphere of influence" exerted by Turkey dissapears.

As for autonomy seeked by them...umm why? Any autonomy that should exist would be what each individual province has the right to do. Kurds in Iraq should ship their politicians to Baghdad instead and get legislation done that way

Turkey has as much if not more reason to be there than the US.

The arrests were made in regards to a plot to kill an senior Iraqi official in Kirkuk. Some of the detained have already been released.

The US is going to present evidence to Turkey regarding why it conducted the raid.

Iraq is next door to them, making Iraq or the Kurds a possible immediate danger. Iraq is not next door to the US.

where do you come up with this kind of drivel?

imagine that hispanics in california formed a large gang, began killling politicians, and claimed
that they wanted an "independant" hispanic california. what do you think the local
authorities are going to do. hunt down the gang members and put them in jail. that's exactly
what was done in turkey.

Your analogy is nonsensical and a caricature of complex and often brutal treatment of Kurds within the borders of modern day Turkey, Iraq, and Iran . . . and former Soviet republics.

A better analogy: You occupy land populated by your people for centuries. It is subsequently invaded and then changes hands from one empire to another. A piddly island nation in western Europe draws borders which intentionally divide your people. As the minority, you are mistreated regardless of your legitimate aspirations to form a nation to re-unite your people.

Brief history of Kurds in Turkey

Your local authorities take interesting photos, heartsurgeon

i have complete confidence that your cited sources are accurate and unbias..

no doubt, the Kurds legitimately deserve to have Kurdistan re-established
along its previous borders.

So does the american indians :)
Oh well, let's give the southern part of the Turkey to the Kurds,
Eastern and nortern part to the armenians,
western part to the greeks
central part to whoever wants it
And then we can tell to the 60 million turkish people "go find yourself a place to live"
They'll probably move on to the (Central Asia) now china where they really belongs.
In the end, there is no such a difference between 1.1 billion and 1.16 billion people
