Tension and dead silence in the office this morning

The same coworker I've been ranting about in various threads for the last year. Everyone kind of tolerates his innapropriate behavior in the office. Everything from venting about his personal life to extreme cursing. Anyways, he's in the cube right next to mine and everyday for the last year, I've put up with his crap. Friday, I could hear him over in his cube shouting and cursing and nagging on the phone with his family counselor. Then I heard him walk over into my cubicle, probably to vent to complain about something. I keep my back turned to him and just ignore his precense like I usually do. He approaches me and gets extremely close to me and says "word of advice, when you have children, kill them while they're young." I immedietly turned around and said in a loud stern voice "HAL, COME ON, YOU DONT HAVE TO GET SOO CLOSE TO TALK TO ME."

he says in this pathetic voice "Im sorry" and he went to the bathroom. He was there for a good 20 minutes.

I dont feel bad about it though. Myself, and everybody I work with has put up with his behavior for the last year and we never say anything.

He's talking about killing children while they're young, and you're focused on how he stands too close to you? 😕

He also curses out loud about how he hates this company, for example "This is the worst f*cking company I've ever worked for." I was told by an upper-person that he hasnt been with any company for more than a couple of years at most. It doesnt surprise me.

I tried to be his friend when he started. But I quickly got tired of him venting on me everyday for hours so I soon started to ignore him and his behavior.

He would prefer to have killed his children while he was young and I'm certain he feels the problem is them.

Right.

If that offended him or made him feel bad, then boy is he in for a shock when someone REALLY lets them know how they feel.

BAHAHAHAHAHA, PWNED!

I still ROFL at your previous thread where he was shouting down the phone at someone and telling them to hurry up cos he needed to take a dump really badly

You should get some tumbleweed and throw it around the office.

Hahahaha, you rememeber that. I forget exactly what he said, but if I remember correctly, he was put on hold or something and he started yelling on the phone about how he had to take a dump.

Oh man, now that was a funny day in the office.

Yeah, you should definitely wait until they are a wee bit older, to give them a fighting chance. 😀

Well, he probably has the right attitude on that, but maybe he has bad breath, or BO, and the OP didn't want to deal with that...😉

You know what, I've actually wondered if he might be the type to do something like that.

I'd definitely get a bit suspicious about him if he never shut up before and now he's all quiet.... as they say, the quiet before the storm.....

I feel sorry for you and also afraid! Has no one complained to mgmt?

We work in the finance/accounting dept. But we have our own separate office suite apart from the accounting dept. We're the tax department, and there is myself, 2 other CPAs, the tax manager, and Hal (the annoying guy.) Im not in any position of authority to tell him anything, and everybody else just kind of tolerates him. Probably because we dont want any office drama. If I was a managaer of someone with authority, I would definetly say something to him.

I could report his a$$ to HR, but the truth is, I dont want to cause anymore problems for him. I just wish he'd act professional and not put us all in this situation.

The guy sounds like a nutcase.

Oh he is:

Cliffnotes about some of his annoying habits...

-He curses out loud when he gets frustrated.
-He bangs on his desk when he gets frustrated.
-He shouts at his family and counselors on his phone.
-All day we can hear him shouting his business to someone on the phone.
-He completely vents out all of his problems on us, whomever seems to be willing to listen at the moment. (Sadly, Ive been this person quite a few times.)
-He curses about how he hates this company and how he hates his job.
-He writes "Hanukah" on our vacation calender.
-He has this nervous behavior where he picks at scabs all over his body from head to back to leg and he puts the scabs in his mouth.
-He walks into our cubes and starts touching everything and picking everything up.
-He whistles outloud.
-He starts roaring out loud with laughter, and then walks over to our cubes and shows us the latest article from the news he's printed out and thought was amusing.
-I can hear him farting out loud.
-He gets a little too close when he wants to say a joke or make a comment or nag.
