i play tennis with a freind and the same situation arises that has not been resolved in a long time.
first im quriouse about how many ponts you gain from winning a shut out (when apponent makes no points that game). this is when we play first to 7, but i think its always the same.
second, when serving and hiting the net (and lands in the right box) = a let... and you get a do-over of that serve. heres where we clash:
he claims that you can only get a do-over if you "tip" the net on the second serve. i think it doesnt make a difference and you get a chance to tip one the first and second serve. and from what i remember two "tips" means a fault... or is it the third?

couldnt find a clear answer anywhere so if we can cite our sources too that would be perfect.
thanks.

If you win all the points in the game and your opponent wins none, you only win 1 game. You get no bonus for killing the person in the game if that's what you're referring to. If you hit a let on your first serve you get to redo that serve...if you miss the redo then you still have your second serve to go in. If you get a let on your second serve you get to repeat the second serve only. You can hit lets all day if you'd like and not get penalized.

really, all day? i guess the number of lets and 2 points on a shut-out were house rules where i learned back in the day. the main point is that you can let on any serve!
well i dont want to sound like a shmuk but i might need to show the source so if you know of any please link them.
thanks for the swift reply!

I imagine you'll find those rules in here: http://www.usta.com/rules/defa...923&icustompageid=1121

But I don't feel like looking. Mike2002 is right though.

If you like scoring the way that you are now then all power to ya...but the traditional way of scoring is the first to 6 games and win by 2; with a tie breaker at 6-6. And its usually 2 out of 3 sets for most tournaments and just regular playing while pros do play best 3 of 5 sets.

in a game if you win all the points its called 40-love ( 40-0)...you can hit the net all you want as long as the ball falls in the receivers court...1st and 2nd serve....
