Tennessee bill would designate some gun owners as law enforcement

what could go wrong...

It’s a direct response to the sentencing and ongoing hate crime trial of Ahmaud Arbery’s killers in Georgia. Some Tennessee GOPers were like “how do we protect these shooters in our state so they aren’t subject to the same rules??” Easy—treat them like law enforcement and give them qualified immunity if they harm someone they suspect to be currently committing a crime.

State Sen. Joey Hensley, who introduced the state Senate version of the bill, told ABC News that the goal of the bill was to allow enhanced gun permit carriers to carry their weapons into locations where off-duty law enforcement enter, such as a store or restaurant that prohibits guns inside their business. Hensley said the bill would not allow enhanced permit holders to bring their weapons into courts or schools.

"This is trying to open it up so that people who go to the extreme to get this extra permit can have the right to defend themselves in more places," the senator told ABC News Thursday.

So basically if you pay $100 extra and take an 8-hour gun safety course then you can carry your gun in places that have banned them. What a load of shit.

If you feel the need to carry your gun anywhere and everywhere perhaps you should move somewhere safer.

Black people living in Tennessee need to be lined up three deep to get the permit.

Veterans are exempt from the class requirement. Somehow, learning to shoot an M16, no matter how long ago, provides a person with the skills and proper headset to act as a law enforcement officer today.

That's not going to improve Education if they're too scared to be without Self-Defence capability.

It sounds like it doesn’t actually give them any law enforcement powers but just designates them as such as a workaround to override gun free zones. Still sounds dumb, but a lot less dumb than giving actual powers to them.

I doubt this has much of a chance considering it has few sponsors. But holy shit. I love how the Freedumb people don't think business owners should have the Freedumb to be gun free.

It had... but then communications progressed to the point of no longer being filtered. Political parties used it to drive fanaticism against the "other", and now that partisan zeal has turned otherwise normal humans into rabid dogs hell bent on ripping each other to shreds. Resurgent racism is just one of many aspects to this malignant disease. We are festering and dying as a society.

I keep seeing complaints that political parties are railing against the "other" yet I only see one party (Democrats for the dimwitted) angry about the other party because that other party is harboring fascists, Nazis, white nationalists, pedophiles, and violent extremists. And those are just the actual leaders of the Repulbican party!

One party is in focusing lies and propaganda to fuel their agenda (pro tip: Republicans).

If you look around your political affiliation and see repugnant people and abhorrent behavior, perhaps you should reconsider your affiliation and spend less time "both sides-ing" this shit and re-aligning yourself. Assuming you aren't a deplorable human being that is.

What happens when law enforcement shoots law enforcement? Not sure, but that's a good reason why blacks should line up as you said.
Once enough black folk apply, I am sure they will change the bill and raise the price of the permit to try to keep the cost out of the range of most black folks.

I doubt black people will be accepted. They'll find some excuse, cherry pick applicants. Then again they may just say, ni**ers need not apply.

Well it looks like after four years of Trump and the GOP's efforts at amping up the spreading of racist hate, fear and suspicion, the party's rank and file have manifested themselves into a state of paranoia which is exactly what their leadership was going for.

I mean, if you can't win elections based on policies that directly benefit the working class and the poor of which the Repub party's aristocrat class' find themselves in, then scaring your constituencies into ignoring their own self-interests and replacing it with the highest priority being the survival of the GOP leadership and their wealthy benefactors is their only way to go.

And what a hell of a job they've done doing just that.
