Anyone out there familar with Tenant/Landlord Laws? I have a question for you.
If a friend of mine decided to rent a townhouse in another town that they can stay in while on frequent business trips rather than staying in hotels and let me live there as long as I paid the utilities and kept the place nice while he wasn't there, would I have to be named on the lease?
I was speaking with an agent, and she claimed I would need to be named on the lease if I was living there, and I would have to meet the minimum salary requirements, have a credit/employee check done on me, etc. Seems she was just trying to scare me away so I wouldn't bother her with tedious questions. But just because I'm the current tenant, and not paying any rent doesn't mean I have to sign the lease with my friend right? He could rent the house out, and if he wanted to let me live there, he could without getting me involved in the legalistic signing of a lease.
Thanks in advance
