At $.80 a disc this is the best deal on quality DVD media in a while. These come in slim jewel cases also. TDK 4X +R has been RICOHJPNR01 whisch will burn at 8X in some burners such as the Optorite, etc. They also have -R for the same price but it is 2X, so not as good a deal. Not sure who manufacturers the -R media. Looks like this is an instore only deal good through 2-21.

Yikes! Thanks for the heads up on the CMC discs. Looks like all the manufacturers are starting to use CMC in addition to the RICOH discs. Makes it harder to find the RICOHs. I recently purchased some +R discs at my local Office Depot and expected RICOHs. I carefully pulled off the shrink wrap without tearing it, ID'd them as CMC, repackaged the cake and took them back. Best Buy has the 50 pack Imations for ~$50 this week. Last time I purchased any they were 2 - 25 pack RICOHs.

OOps! Looks like i'm guilty of a repost. Just take me out and shoot me.

Not so lucky, I purchased 5 packs of DVD-R and only 3 of them where RITEK and burn at 4x while the other two were TDK and only burn at 2x :( Two of the three DVD+R were Ricoh's and the third CMC, which is fine by me seeing I've go so many Ricoh's and need some variety for testing :) Both CMC and Ricoh DVD+R burn at 8x according to DVDInfoPro.

So it looks like pot luck for TDK DVD media :(

Is there any physical difference between the Richos and the CMCs that let you tell which is which?

I wouldn't want CMC's. I've had so many, and I hear bad things about them. They seem to burn fine but supposedly their life is really bad. Sometimes they just stop working after a few months.

Who makes the Memorex? Last time Staples had a deal like this I talked the Asst. Manager into letting me substitute Sonys and they were Richos ;)

Memorex discs are both Ricoh and CMC's. You just have to get lucky.

The last time I bought Memorex +R discs the cakes with black plastic bottoms were CMC and those with gray plastic bottoms were RICOH. Probably a big YMMV.

Ricoh and CMC's --- my recorder burns great with both of these and they both play on my computer, Ps2, Apex, and Mintek portable... am I missing something? Did I luck out getting a burner that can use both of these?

Yes, but the disks are marked as 2x and packaged in the jewel case as 2x! So I guess if your lucky enough to get the Ritek G04 they will burn at 4x. Again its hit or miss with the TDK's.

As far as the DVD+R Ricoh versus CMC, I did notice that the CMC disks were shrink wrapped with a single seal, versus the Ricoh's wrapped more like gift wrap. The CMC shrink wrap feels like normal saran wrap.

Hope this helps.

Got the +Rs today and they were CMC. :(

However got a Memorex 10 pack +Rs at staple just a few days ago and they were RIOCH. I think I'll try to get some more memorexs and pricematch to the website.
