Temps with an e6600?

What are you guys seeing?

At stock speeds with a Tuniq Tower I am getting 51-53C, at 100% CPU usage with Orthos.

That seems pretty warm for stock ... but I have never run the stress test at stock speeds.

I am OCed to 3.6(400FSB)/1.5625v with a Scythe Infiniity and E6600 (both lapped) and am getting 57-59C with Orthos.

EDIT: You got me curious so I rebooted and set volts and FSB to auto. The temps (via TAT) are peaking at 41 with Orthos.

What motherboard and utilities are you using to read the temperatures?

Compare coretemp to your motherboard's utility's reading, and even the Intel thermal tool (TAT)

Also, Room temperature? closed or opened case?

Asus PC Probe is giving me ~51C with Orthos running. I downloaded Core Temp, and it is showing 43C for Core 0, and 40C for Core 1. Why the big discrepancy between the two?

What is a trusted source/tool that I should be using to monitor temperatures?

Case is still open, and the room is about 65F.

I like Intel's Thermal Analysis Tool (TAT). Search and you'll find a free download.

None of the tools report exactly the same temps. Kinda frustrating, and hard to compare.

The Intel tool and Core Temp are within a degree of eachother. Is it safe to go by these, and ignore my motherboard's Asus Probe software? That shows ~10C higher than both of the other for some reason.

Why the bidg descrepancy? Asus and its temperature monitoring has sucked for years!!!


The core temp app is reading a more accurate temp but deeper in the packaging of the core. Regular working apps (unlike Asus most of the time) should read lower temps then core temp....

I show 47c with 2 instances of F@H going on my E6600@3.26ghz wil coretemp says 10c higher....
