just put together an AMD 3000+ newcastle with a XP-90 and a panaflo L1B fan and some as5....temps are 44 idle with case temps 32 and load while running 3dmark loops go to 48.. shldnt my idle temps be lower???

It's probably a faulty reading... if you have good contact between the CPU and HSF then the CPU should typically idle 3-5º warmer than ambient case temp. See what the BIOS says.

Oh... what prog are you using to get this reading? If it's Everest, it might be mis-labeling things. Everest tries to tell me that my NF4 temp is actually my CPU temp, while my real CPU temp shows up under Aux. This is with DFI Ultra-D.

I have the exact numbers with my Newcastle 3800 and XP90. This is with Cool n Quiet disabled. When I enable it my temps drop to 29C at idle.

I'd say your temps are switched: your CPU temp is probably 32 and your case is probably 44. When you run Prime or SuperPI, look to see which temp has the greatest temp swing: that's your CPU temp. Just ignore the other ones.
