Temps: LCB9E 0702WPMW Opt 165 @ 2.7 @ 1.50V, Ultra 120 Extreme, L1A cooling

This may be normal, as not much has been reported on the latest Opterons.

My CPU runs stable for over 40hours (when I stopped testing) at 1.5V. I am using AS5, a lapped Ultra 120 Extreme and it's mounted with a L1A in a pull config.

My temps hit up to 73C on one core in Orthos. Mostly both stay in the 57-58/69-70C range during testing and load.

Room temp is 77-78C. Opening my case doesn't really improve the temps (it has pretty good airflow with 3 intake and 2 exhaust fans).

Anyone have comments?

That seems pretty high given your case and CPU cooling. I question the accuracy of those temps.

Are you using CoreTemp to monitor?

Just for reference my Opteron 165 @ 2.75Ghz with 1.35v maxes out around 57-58C with a Scythe Ninja and similar fan configuration as yours.

Did you lap your U120X? Nearly all of them have been coming from the factory convexed so they're not making proper contact with the IHS.

I had it lapped by Crazy PC and although not mirror finish I did graph paper test it. The IHS was not lapped and I am debating that and possibly removing it. I haven't seen any one vouch that the Ultra 120 Extreme is ok with an delidded opteron.

I am using Core Temp (0.96) and I am not sure if I possibly have a non-calibrated temp diode or something. It was unstable with my XP-120 with the fan pushing....temps would go past 76C though up to 80C occasionally.

Gotta be a temp probe issue to have such consistantly sub-par results with two good coolers. I still use my xp-120 on my 3ghz san diego with idles about 34 and it never hits 50C full load.
