Hi guys imnew here but found this forumwhile i was doing a search about this i7 4790k pleasure to meet yas :)
Any ways i just upgraded my system from i7 2600k and maximus v to i7 4790k and asus z87.At first would not post due to bios needed updating. After that things were ok.my system is liquid cooled using dragoon fluid. had a boot issue after that where it kept sending me to bios cause it did not see a cpu fan so i disabled that and loaded optimizing bios setting. My ambient temp in my basement bout 22-24.My cpu was running temps around 45-50 at idle then i went into a game and my temps went up as high as 92.after reading this forum,i disabled multicore enhancement and that reduced my idle to 32-34 but im sure with the cooling system i have this should be lower.Im also using indigo XS thermo system.is there anything else i can do other than resetting the cpu and block ?

Not quite sure what's going on because MCE doesn't influence idle temps, since the cpu will still clock down to the same low idle freq and vcore.

That said, 32-34 idle seems completely normal to me.

Hi Nomy61, just went through the same as you and i upgrade from a 2600K as well. I was pulling my hair out trying to work out what was going on as i too have a 4790k watercooled with h100i and temps were ideling in the 30's and stress testing would shoot up to the high 80's once even above 90. Not sure how exactly it was fixed but look at the tread in the ROG forums and you can see my temps earlier in this post have significantly reduced to mid 20's ideling and mid 60's maximum stress in Prime95... How i am not sure but originally i lowered the vcore but apparently this caused the problem i then left it in auto and that has solved it... has something to do with Asus Suite that was causing the problems for me as i played around with the settings without doing my homework... yes i am a noob and don't know what i am doing but now will learn from the guys here and on other forums. Your temps should definatly not go higher than 70 degrees when stress testing and actualy in games it should be lower... so do look at the vcore and the AI suite. Just to let you know i am now running stock except for the processor which is always running at 4.4Ghz and my temps have not got higher than 65 Degrees no matter how hard i stress and i have used IntelBurn, Aida64 and Prime95 so yours should be the same... sorry i cant help more as i do not exactly know whats going on.

PS I will try to find out exactly what was going on and post, hopefully we can get yours down too... Also i have not disbled MCE and yes you can laugh at me for the MCE posts below... I did

This is what helped me... From the ROG forums - not sure if you are in the same boat because this is for my Asus Maximus Hero VII board... but as i said you should have much lower temps period.

Answer
When you go to Bios in the CPU voltage section you see the settings and the CPU voltage is probably set at 1.25-1.3 forgot the exact number. what i did was I set it to 1.200 at 4.4 ( come people can go lower like 1.1XX) but if you go too low cpu won't have enough power. If you put (1.2) the voltage will probably adjust to 1.21-1.29 so I set to 1.200 so it will be 1.2001-1.2009 which mine is 1.2004v

It decreased my 90-100c to 72C at 100% load while using hyper 212 evo cooler

Still seems a bit high to me considering my 3570K uses between 1.048 and 1.072 during Cinebench. But if your vcore is on auto and the correct turbo multipliers are applied then it is what it is.

Could also very well be the case that Intel increased vcore a bit for 4790K, after all it's clocked pretty high. Search around a bit on oc forums to try and find out what the average stock vcore for a 4790K is if you want to be absolutely sure.

What is MCE and why is it an option?

Machine-check exception .... A Machine Check Exception (MCE) is a type of computer hardware error that occurs when a computer's central processing unit detects a hardware problem.

I know nothing about it but think MCE could mean the above... could be totally wrong though.

It depends on his VID, many of 4790k have higher VID .

You are all set Nomy61.... nothing more to do your temps are great now, must have been the reseating as mid 20's and 60's and max are great temps for the i7-4790k at 4.4 and slighty above...

Enjoy

First of all I'd like thank u guys for your input:) I did not do proceeder right for the indigo XS thermo paste and after fixing everything my system is flying temps steady at 24-28 idle . Ram @ 2400 cpu at 4.6 prime for 4 hours steady 65-70 man this XS paste is very good if done right:whiste: Here's pic of my 1st rigit tube build

What parts or kit did you use for the water-cooling. It is awesome.

This just indicates how any decent over-clocking for these newer chips shifts the preference toward water. With a Sandy Bridge processor, someone with good water-cooling would report a maximum load temperature around 50C.
