Temps for a 1700+ with generic heatsink and fan, what's too high??

You're going to get ribbed for not putting this in Cases & Cooling, but anyway...

Of course one's temperatures depend on many factors: The core type, the kind of case you have, the cooling solution you have implemented (or lack thereof), the room temperature, where the case is located within your room, the list goes on...

There simply is no standard temperature, but a range that is satisfactory. I find people are paranoid about CPU temperatures in general.

53 degrees sounds acceptable, but we need to know more about your set up to draw a conclusion. I'm fairly certain your CPU can handle temperatures up to 90 degrees, but I would worry in the sixties and seventies. It's not hard to keep an AMD CPU cool. Mine runs at between 36 and 48 degrees depending on the situation and the room temperature.

I am running a generic 3 year old case with AS3 on the chip with a generic fan/heatsink. The room I am in is about 78 degrees (pretty hot). I was just thinking that 51 to 53 doing nothing but installing drivers was warm. I was hoping to be able to play BF1942 for multiple hours and never go over 50, won't happen with generic fan/heatsink? Where can I get Prime95?

we are talking about celcius right?
because 78ºC would be about 172F or if 78F 26ºC
53ºC IDLE is pretty damn high.
most ppl get <40-50 load and <35 idle especially with 1700s
try to get a better heatsink if you can afford it, preferably slk or mcx series
xps have a die temperature at 90ºc BUT with constant 50+ (youll be going ~60/60+ load) youll want to try to cut down on your temps
what 1700+ do you have and what speed are you running at

Hi, I was posting under TnVolsFan while at a friends house. It is my system we are talking about. I decided to not go the overlocking route for now and just run a nice stable PC. I actually played BF1942 for 1.5 hours and immediately checked temp after game and had 53, I thought that was decent? I have no case fans (actually open case at the moment) and the generic fan/heatsink like I mentioned. Could mine be reading higher because of some bug? I remember reading about some nForce2 boards reading high. Thanks

nah you are ok

prime95 here
it will raise temps far beyond those you;'ve seen though lol

ifyou can stay below 60-65C you are ok with stock heatink/fan (or somethig similar) once you close case
otherwise just leave it open (i have for te past couple years lol)

...dont expect ANY overclocking though lol

These chips are rated to run up to 90C. I wouldn't worry about 53C. You don't need to lower the voltage or anything like that. Heck, if you upped the voltage to 1.75 I doubt you would ever even hit 60C.....

My Computer hasnt been restarted in a lil over 28days. I use my computer much more then an average person does. I game all the time and do school work. The entire time it has been on i have been running seti. so with the exception of the time it takes to receive more info from seti, my cpu has been @ 100% for 28days straight. I have an XP1600+@ 1615mhz,(9.5X170). I have an old FOP32 on it and my temp is 53C (at full load). So if ANYONE says that having a temp like that is too high, they honestly don't know what they are talking about.

I think people worry too much about temps. So long as you don't overclock, you can tolerate pretty high temps.

since you you got a max of 53º playing bf and i guess youre not gonna be doing much more, those temps are fine. if you do choose to o/c, try to keep your temps out of the mid/high 60s. unless you can get better cooling.
personally i dont like the high temps bc i live in tx and if gets fuxing hot here. 100ºF ambient temp(w/ AC) + 50/60ºC == one hot room.

Your temps are fine. A bit on the warm side, but still perfectly fine. I'd say worry if it goes much over 60.
