Hello,

soon i will be looking to over clock my rig which will be soon, i will be looking to hit about 2.6Ghz, but what i need to keep in mind is what sort of temps and volts do you guys advise not to go over, i am aware that the standard volts for this CPU is 1.55, which i do not really look to exceed, well not really more then 1.6 anyway ( dont really want to shorten the life of the CPU),

Also i would like to know what are the safe temps for overclocking (Basically what not to exceed i.e. 50c), or what ever they maybe.... just looking for some advice because when i reach a stable over clock (hopefully 2.6) i do not want to be pushing my cpu that much with regards to volts and temps (I wont the cpu to run comfortably)...

I will be using the xp90 heat sink which should be good enough...

i would just like some advice.

Thanks

I believe the general rule of thumb for a voltage increase is 10% of the rated voltage. So since winnies take 1.4volts stock, you should stick around 1.54volts, according to that rule anyway. My 3500 winnie isn't stable at 1.55v unfortunately, but is 12 hour prime stable at 2.6 ghz @ 1.57 volts, go figure.

My idle temps are around 33 to 37C depending on the room temperature, but go up to 55C at times under Prime small fft load :Q I'm not quite sure how safe that is, but I don't run prime all the time anyway. Usually, playing WoW my cpu load is 49C, 51C tops.

I'm using an XP90 to cool it, with a tornado fan running at half power. I'm also using AS3 because I still have some left over, but I'm not sure if AS5 will cool my CPU any further.

EDIT:

To put some perspective on it though, according to an "OC guide" from a poster @ xtremesystems, you can run winnies up to 1.65 if you had extreme air cooling (tornado fan), and that load temps of 60-65C were okay.
