temprature monitoring software that keeps a log

The new HTPC (Win7 OS) I built is freezing up and I suspect that its coz of temperature, lack of proper cooling -

Is there a system hardware monitoring software like HWMonitor, that would keep a log too? so after the system recovers from the crash, I can simply open the log to see what was the last CPU temp.

Additionally, is there a Rainmeter like widget or Windows 7 gadget that -
1. can monitor CPU temp
2. "Stay on top" so that when I am watching Hulu or Amazon video on full screen, through browser, I can still see the temperatures.

Hwinfo32 or Hwinfo64 both offer logging capability. They can also be configured to show temps in the systray and start auto when your system starts up.

NOTE: on my rig I had to use HWINFO Monitor ... the simpler sidebar gadget did not work
