Temporarily disabling plug and play in WinXP

Just upgraded to XP and I have a Lexmark Z52 USB printer - when I connect it to install it, XP automatically installs its own native driver for the printer, but I'd rather use the official Lexmark printer driver so I can get the most out of my printer. So now I have two drivers installed for the Lexmark - the native XP one and the Lexmark one. I'm installing my scanner next and I'd like to force XP to not use plug and play so I can install the official drivers. I think I remember that I could disable the automatic detection and installation of hardware in Win98 by holding a button upon start up (or I could be totally off). Anyone know what it is for XP? Thanks.

Just let xp do its thing then go to the properties of the printer and upgrade the driver and use the lexmark drivers

I have one of these printers and the XP driver supports it well. What specific function is it that you need that the XP driver lacks?

Cheers!
