temperature/stability

im running a 2.26 p4 at 2.60 fsb at 150 3:4 memory ratio.... i have an abit it7, which reads the temps a bit high, but with the cpu voltage at 1.55 im getting cpu temps of as high as 60.5 C with winbond hardware doctor while running prime95... is this accurate, especially if the system is running prime95 fine without any flaws... should i back off strictly because of the temp, or can i keep going because the system is still stable???
whatd you thinkg?????

From everything that I have read, stability is the majority determining factor. If you can run prime95 torture test for 24 hours straight and it doesn't crash, I would say you are fine.

One note on what you are using though. overclockers.com is reporting that there are a number of cases where people who are overclocking Northwood P4s are having them die even if they are not overheating. You might want to check it out. I didn't read it cause I am currently in the AMD camp.

Thanks and have fun!!!

Jason.

my EPoX reports temps of in the 50's too @ 2.7Ghz (1.8A) using default voltage.. the heatsink is easily as hot as my XP1800+ stock HSF.. I think I need a better cooler.

I have mixed feelings about the temp readouts:
My P4S333 (1.8A at 2.59) showed 34C at idle at 42C at load w/stock HS - looked fine until I changed to a PE chipset board
Same CPU again with stock HS 45C idle and 58C load on MSI 845PEMax
Changed HeatSink to a Vantec Aeroflow - 44C idle and 58C load - so no change
