Temperature Reader !!!!! HELP !!!!!

i have a slot A processor and i am replacein the HSF with a Slot Taisol and when i pulled out the old HSF i noticed the "temp reader" is kinda far from the chip and short - does it go inbetween the HSF and chip or in the fins of the chip ?? It is a MSI k7 pro motherboard - if you need any more info just ask

also when lapping how much metal is worn down ??

ask mikewarrior2 he knows all about socket A procs. I have a MSI k7T Pro2a and he told me that this mobo reads low.
