Temperature measurement on MSI K7T Pro2

I have a K7T Pro2 board with an Athlon 800 (not o/c) and while the system is running perfectly and rock solid, I wonder how the temperatures I can see in the BIOS or via PC Alert III are measured. Well, my CPU temperature seems to be ok (38-46 °C with a relatively cheap Coolermaster HSF), but when I built the system I couldn't find any temperature sensor on the board especially not within the Socket A...
Any suggestion appreciated. Thanks!
 
I just built a system with the components listed in my signature below. My CPU temp is usually 33 - 35 degrees celcius according to the PC Alert III system monitor that came with the MSI board...
 
I think temperatures of 33-35 °C are an indication for highly inaccurate measurements if you have no extravagant cooling. I start to believe that we can't trust the temperature measurements of this board at all.
 
By the way...I hope you didn't get me wrong, gittyup, but what I'm actually looking for is an explanation which technique MSI uses on this board to measure temperatures...
 
Well, as I understand it... you wont get a verry accurate judge of how hot the processor is with this board because the heat monitor is slightly below the chip itself. Makes sense to me, but I could be misinformed.

Yes, I did mis-understand your question. Since the heat sensor is placed slightly below the processor, is there a number of degress to add to the reading that will give you a more accurate temp. Plus 2 - 3 degress, for example?

That's the way it SHOULD be, at least manufacturers like Asus, Abit and so on do it that way, but, as I already mentioned, I didn't find any temperature sensor within the socket (which would be below the CPU). So MSI either uses a different type of sensor which is invisible (???) or the sensor must be elsewhere but not close to the CPU.
 
Hanky, you are not the only one to not find a thermistor in the socket. the famous DR TOM didn't find one either.
