Hello,

I have an ASUS A7V + Tbird 850 @ 1000.
There is a PAL 6035 with a (temporary) sunon 23CFM fan (waiting for a delta, baby!)

When I was in Win98SE - the BIOS reported 42Celsius idle, as well as Motherboard monitor 5.
I installed ME.
MBM5 reports - 32C. I wonder, hey, isn't that the Mobo temp?!
Nope, check the BIOS - it says 32 as well.
Stay in the BIOS for a while, and it gradually climbs back up to 42.
Go into Windows ME, load MBM5 - and it's at 42 but it slowly drops to 32.

I have installed the Via 4n1's, and the AGP 4X driver, as well as MBM5..but I have NOT installed
any kind of software cpu cooling program. I didn't think anything like that is built into MBM..

We're down to 31 now, wtf?! :) That delta fan is gonna freeze it!:Q

Installed ME with ACPI on from the beginning? (Option in the setup-command when installing...) Perhaps this is activated in ME automatically, 'cos if you installed win98 in that special way, it makes cpu idle calls automatically => no need for further software anymore...

I presume the temperatures climb like hell under full load?

Yeah, when I run rc5 it goes alllll the way back up to 42'ish. :)
11 degrees difference.

In win98 se it peaked at 45'ish, but idled at 42'ish.

Jop, seems to me that ME installs with ACPI on per default.
(And I installed via command prompt option...)

Anyway, the CPU idle calls from ME make CpuIdle-like extra software useless and the cpu stays cooler. My Celly also is cooler under ME than under 98 without ACPI.

Makes sense to me...;)
