what do you guys use for temp readings? running a gigabyte p35-ds3l and the stock intel hsf unit and temps seem a bit high on auto V running @ 3.0GHz. used AS5 and put it on per the AS5 instructions - thin line down the middle and yes i got it going the correct way :)

ambient temp by the computers is 80F

idle i get 32C, load (using orthos either in blend or small fft) i get ~65-67C using speedfan and core temp. seem too high?

You're probably pushing more vcore than you have to if you have vcore set on auto. Try manually setting the vcore, and things should run a tiny bit cooler. Overall though, your temps aren't what I'd call "bad".

i did notice that at the idle point that V would be higher than when under stress??

i will take the V during stress and manually set the V to that and see what the V drop is and then make adj according.

it just seems that a ~30C difference between idle and load is quite a bit

thanks again. manually set it to 1.38125 in the bios which netted 1.328 in cpu-z @ 333x9 and it hovers between 64 & 65C, not climbing above 65C after 20min of orthos small fft. will let it go and see how it handles it. if all good after a couple hours, may move it up a bit and give it a bit more V, staying under 70C just for a bit of error :)

You don't have to do this, because your temperatures are fine.

I've tried that voltage to pick over-clock settings -- currently at 2.67 Ghz on an E2140 and also 2.67 Ghz on another system with E2180.

After lapping the IHS to these processors and using diamond thermal paste, the core temperatures under load for an 80F room ambient are around 58C.

I didn't even lap the base of the stock cooler, either.
