My current machine is no match for Doom 3. p3-600mhz 512mb of ram.
But I may have the following components at my disposal.
P4 1.7ghz , Asus motherboard (not sure of model)
re-usable parts in my current system:
10k rpm scsi 20gb drive
120gb wd 8mb cache ide drive
sb audigy 1 card
ethernet card
Do I "borrow" the 1.7ghz processor and mobo that are not being used by my brother, slap a top of the line video card in it X800 and a good amount of ram, throw it into an antec sonata case with a scsi card?
I am looking to play doom 3 / hl2 very smoothly but I am not sure i want to drop enough cash for a new system right now. I don't use surround sound for gaming, will most likely use my 2 channel harmon kardon's. So i dont think i need a new soundcard.
Would this system be capable for these games? or do I need a faster cpu ?
I'm trying to end up with an almost top of the line system without spending the cash or forefitting the option of BTX in the coming year or 2.
Thanks
