hello all, and thanks for taking the time to read this post.

I just built my new system and the full specs are in my sig (main squeeze).

I am running:

Gigabyte GA7-NNXP
Athlon 3200+
3x512 3200 DDR
2x 120GB HDD

here is the case: (please look down to all the pics, so you get an idea of fans and cooling)case

CAK4-88T heatsink and fan link
SAF520 power supply power

ok, here are my current temps:
system temp: 34C
CPU temp: 64C
CPU fan speed: 3750RPM
System fan speed: 1394
Power fan speed: 1548

I am concerned that I am running too hot. I read that acceptable temp is 50C and this is quite a bit higher. I have the system running for the past hour and the temps do not change, although the fans rpm speed do. This is the first time I am running this system and want to be sure that I dont blow it out.

Thanks in advance for any help!
:)

Well, off the top - what do you check CPU temp with? Is it accurate? Also, are you certain you have a good interface between the CPU itself and the heatsink? Good thermal paste in there? No shims or anything in the way?

Certainly looks like everything should be OK, given the parts and specs - but the CPU temp seems a little unusually high to me, you too I suppose.

I have the same board but the nforce 2 model. I think gigabyte temps read high. Sisoft sandra says they are 20 degrees (c) cooler. Try another tool to collect the data.

I am getting this info from the CMOS
Boot...delete....CMOS...PC Health Status

it was steady at 64C for about an hour... now it is between 59C and 62C
The CPU fan speed fluctuates between 3750 adn 3785

I think I will get better thermal paste. I tried something different so am not confident in the product. I will also check the directions of the fans.

But I was just curious. I agree that Gigabytes run high. This is my third Gigabyte product, and they have all run a few degrees higher. This is way higher so I wanted to know if I should be worried.

thanks
:)

edit: the GA7-NNXP is a NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400 board
