I have upgraded from Duron 700Mhz to Duron 1.3Ghz I noticed temp 51C/125F is this normal? I am using ECS KS5A mobo and same Thermake Volcano 5 cpu fan I did clean old compond paste from the fan.

Actually it is a bit high but not earth shattering. As long as the system runs stable it shouldn't pose any problem. However, is that under load or an idle temp? If it is an idle temp you might want to take a look at either improving your airflow in the case or getting a better HSF. That volcano might have been "OK" for it's time with the 700, but an upgrade to a newer/improved HSF might be a wise choice now. It doesn't have to be an expensive upgrade either. You can get an excellent HS for under $25 and there are some pretty nice ones for a lot less.
Just for giggles though, you might want to closely examine your installation of the HS again. If it is slightly "off", it would account for the rise in temps. Is the cut-away on the bottom of the HS matched up with the same area of the socket and is it sitting flat on the CPU? How much thermal paste did you use? Too much can insulate the CPU and cause a higher temp. Just something to look at before deciding your next move.

Under full load my Duron 1.2Ghz w/ Abit KT7A-RAID is 49C. I'm using a GC-68. 51C is fine, unless that's idle temps.

wait a min how do I figure idle temp?
That's the easy part; just start the system and then let it sit without opening any programs, etc for a few minutes. Then, since you have nothing running but the "normal" background programs, the system will be at "idle". Check the temps at this point.

Sorry, I "assumed" you might be using something like MBM5 (MotherBoard Monitor5). But actually, just go into the BIOS and go to the same page that you "normally" check the temps on. The let the system sit for about 10-15 minutes. It won't be quite the same as using a third party program while in Windows but it will be close enough.

Hi Rottie,

If you check the AMD web site, I think you'll find that the Volcano 5 is only certified to run up to and including the Duron 1100. The V5 is all alum. and poor cp/K. I would suggest a Volcano 7 if you can find one or Volcano 9 if not. The price should be around $15 - $20. Use a good thermal paste as well and follow manufacturers instructions for application. Just for comparision. I built a similiar system for my Dad (KS5A w/Duron 1.2) and temps are 32 - 36degC all the time. :)

I hope this helps,
