Temp question and Ideas and keeping it quiet

Here is my rig

Athlon 1800+ XP w Aopen HSF
Shuttle AK31 MOBO
512 megs 2x256 kingston ddr 2100
WD 40 gig 7200rpm 2mb cache HD
128meg ddr PNY Geforce4 Ti4200 card
350w powersupply powmax
power max case w 1 80mm fan up fron 1 80mm fan in back and the option for one more in back

the case fans are generic and loud, , I am looking to quiet it and cool it more.
idel it runs at 47 degrees for the cpu and 34 for the case and gets up to 51 for cup and 37 for case when it's actually processing large loads.

My thoughts are to add 3 new 80mm fans, 1 more than i have now, they would be NMB ultra quiet fans, and Vantec AeroFlow Socket A TMD Cooler and add Arctic silver 3, will this help quiet things down, help air flow and decrease temps? Any ideas or suggestions would help, I can get all this for under 50 dollars, so If anyone has other suggestions let me know.

Thanks.

You shouldn't need that many fans to keep it cool. Right now I have a 2100+ overclocked by 66MHz, with an AX-7 and a panaflo L1A on it, AS3, with an Antec dual-fan PSU and one Antec Stealth fan behind the CPU. I can barely hear the machine and temperatures are nowhere near 50. (Motherboard Monitor reads 47C no matter what, another tool reads 44C. The A7N8X monitoring seems a little funky.)

Simply a better heatsink will make all the difference in the world.

thanks for the suggestions, I Think replacing the 2 generic 80mm fans with the ultra quiet NMB's would help that, but I think maybe i'll just replace the 2, and replace the HSF, and not add another, but they are only 2.50 a piece.

My NMBs work well. Not great though. They are pretty weak and they have a little bit of a tick to them. I dont doubt their reliability at 12V though, they dont start under that.

I've heard only good things about these fans, but I have no personal experience with them.

The NMB's are very quiet, but the amount of airflow is as subtle as the noise.
They are worth 2.50 IMHO, but I would only use them if I could run several at a time to push a decent combined cfm through the case.
The best option I know of is the Panaflo L1a. This is the only other 80mm fan I've 'heard' that is barely audible at default voltage. But some ppl even undervolt those to fine tune the noise. If you've got the little bit of extra money, throw a bunch of panaflos into the case and 1 for the heatsink. The NMB's might cut it, but if you aren't satisfied with their cooling ability you're stuck with fans you want to upgrade immediately (I have 5 NMB's sitting in a box 🙂)
There's also one thing to anticipate after you quiet down the fans...
you'll start to hear how loud everything else is.... cdrom, hard drive, 4200fan, powersupply fan, etc...

Edit: If you do decide to use the NMB's, PM me and I'll sell you some for a competitive price.
