Hello

i have a problem when encoding DIVX, the CPU temperature rises to 90+ and the computer freeze.

The normal temperature of my system is 35 degree and CPU 58 (which i think is quite hot)

Here is my system

Gigabyte 7VRXP rev 2.0
Athlon XP1800+ 1.53ghz
Thermaltake dragon orb 3
DDR PC2700 333 256MB
ATI All in wonder 8500 128 megs
2X80mm fan (1 intake bottom, 1 outake rear)
Generic 300W PSU

If anyone could help me i would appreciate it greatly!

That's your problem. That heatsink is very noisy and not a good cooler. But, if you wish to try and get the most from it be sure you have good compound between the heatsink and cpu and be sure all dust is removed from the heatsink and fans.

And how is your case temp, do you have at least one fan in the lower front sucking air in and one in the rear as exhaust?

Suggestions for a far better heatsink include the SLK800, SK-7 and the SK6+. ;)

And of course a good 80mm fan.

Those are heatsinks and they are made by Thermalright. They do not include a fan so you'd need a decent 80mm one. If not overclocking then one that puts out arounds 32cfm should be fine.

Here's some good places to get the heatsinks and fans from:

KDC
CrazyPC
HighspeedPC
SVC

Not nearly as good, and way too loud for the performance. Go with a Thermalright heatsink, as mentioned above, and you can put any fan 80mm fan you want on it (except the SK6+), like an leed fan - I'd advise against the Tt Smart Fan (Coolmod or otherwise) dues to noise.

Don't be taken in by the specs given out by Thermaltake, they more or less lie about the specs.

thanks godmare, i know there are a lot of them available, i even have some inside my case.

But i want to be sure that the one i'll buy will be adequate for cooling the CPU!

How much CFM is required?

thanks everyone!

That depends on how much you would be overclocking. Usually around 25 - 30cfm is enough, even for moderate oc'ing. I prefer at least 32cfm.

If you want a good cooling led fan then I suggest the Antec led fans. They are rated at 34cfm and do cool much better than those cheaper led fans. And they also come in blue. :)

I'm in Canada and I've ordered from Case Mod to get my Alpha PAL8045. The owner is an Anandtech member (JokerF15) and was really helpful. He shipped it via the USPS so that I wouldn't get reamed on brokerage fees. Also, his prices are much cheaper than what you'd pay if you were buying in Canada especially on the higher end stuff and given the exchange rate these days.

For the fan, Panaflo's are superb. You can grab them from BG Micro, they also ship to Canada via USPS. The fans are only about $3.00 USD, so you may as well grab some to use as case fans as well :).

Hope that helps

*edit*oops, I didn't see the thing about you wanting an LED fan. Panaflos are definitely NOT LED fans, but if you value silence over looks... ;)
Also, I wouldn't worry to much about CFMs I've got an Athlon 1700+ (Tbred) running at 1920 MHz stable with a Panaflo (~25 CFM)

I would recommend an SLK-800 and a YS-Tech 48.5cfm 80mm fan. The noise to cooling ratio on this fan is very good.

And please don't tell me the CPU temp gets to 90c!!! You must have mounted it wrong, because I don't think I have ever heard of one getting that hot. Make sure you got the groove on the bottom of the heatsink in the correct place, otherwise you won't have good contact.

Still trying to get over 80cfm, but this Delta just isn't powerful enough. ;)
