Well, my job search sucks and all I can land is temp positions. If I take one, what will happen if i end the contract early? Do I even bother putting a temp position on my resume? I plan on just taking it because i really need income now.

edit: it is this (around $24/hr) or working in a supermarket (minimum wage).

Contract work isn't temp work. Temp work you can walk away from; contract work is just that - contracted for a specified length of time.

There's nothing wrong with contract work (or temp work, for that matter) if there's no permanent gig that suits you.

Temp positions can sometimes lead to permanent positions if both parties are mutually happy with the arrangement.

nah...there is no way I am gonna enjoy this industry (ATE....). I have done it once before and I hated it. I just do not want to work minimum wage anymore.

Just curious, what industry are you referring to?

If you dont want a temp job, and you dont want retail, you might want to consider working as a waiter at a nice resturaunt. Of course, it's not resume-material, but you can average $20+ an hour.

How is your GPA? Did your school have a decent program? Did you do any internships? Were there many companies in attendance at your career fair?

Neither myself nor any of my friends in EE had any trouble securing multiple interviews, job offers, etc.

It's a 3.0 (not great, but not poor)

I have had about 3 interviews since June.

yes, my school has a decent EE program.

I had 3 internships, did good at all (1st one was a software type position [not my thing], 2nd moved to texas, 3rd the HR dept never responds [but workers asked me to return])

There were a few engineering companies at the career fair (both big and small).

My friends have told me that I need to wait till November because most companies are holding out for the fall graduates.

If there are people at #3 that liked you; then recontact the managers.
Explain that you would like to come and work for them.

Many jobs are temp to perm now as it makes firing someone easy. Too many slackers out there.

Like others have said though on a contract job, don't break out early unless you finish it early. Temp is no harm no foul, but it's best if both sides are honest with the engagement. If you are actively going to look for other permanent work let them know, if they aren't intending to hire you if things work out make sure you have asked the question. Too many also assume temp is always a lead in to permanent work. Esp in bank jobs, we hire people purely as temporary during a heavy month or loan sale. They are done at the end.

However, we have been known to terminate another associate to replace them with a better temp.

No no no wrong wrong. This is prime recruiting season, right now. Companies are ouy in full force looking for all grads, I graduated last may and just had 2 interviews, 2 offers. Get your resume out there and get your ass in gear, companies are looking to hire right now for january (when I start). Also, look in Dallas and Austin, there are a TON of good jobs around here.

BTW SpecialK thanks for the advice and I will be moving to Austin in January, make sure you remind me and I will buy you a beer.
