temp on 8IEXP

I'm using a thermaltake volcano 7+ with p4 1.8a on gigabyte 8IEXP, used artic silver 3. I just booted and checked temp in bios, and it is steady at 47/48 on high and medium hsf speeds. I know this is high because i have seen reviews of this heatsink on athlons and the temp was under 40. I read that some other people thought the temps on this board were flakey. Should I wait till I run a program like motherboard monitor before I consider reapplying the AS3? I thought it was strange that the speed of the fan from 4500 to 6000 did not change temp in bios.

dont worry same thing here.....i have thermaltake Dragon 478 here........used stock before..temps were 47/48 idle.....now 43 idle (no matter what speed i choose).

i used to get 37/38 idle before using stock on a different board so i think that this board is reporting about 10c over in general. Yours should be around 37/38 actual. i was surprised to see a 5C drop when i used dragon 478.

The cool thing that i like about the dragon is that you can switch between 3 different fan speeds and is $10 cheaper than volcano 7+. I also kinda like the oval shape of the heatsink
