Telocity DSL - any good

Anyone use Telocity for DSL service? $39.95 with 1 static IP. And they allow you to run WWW,SMTP,POP3,FTP, and other services from that IP. The only thing I'm skeptical about is what their CIR is (or guaranteed download/upload rate) and the fact that their Teleocity Gateway (DSL modem-like) is required (but free).

If you've used them, would you keep them? I'm on SWBELL now. It's not horrible, but there aren't any frills with the package. A static IP would be nice for $10 less per month than I'm paying.

Thanks for the info.

I have had Telocity for about six months with any real problems.. Unfortunatly for the last couple weeks there have been major problems with email bouncing, news server moving at a snails pace, and most recentlly net routing problems.

I would wait and see if the "upgrades" that Telocity is promicing by the end of the year pan out first.

I have a few friends with Telocity.. nothing but problems.. avoid them! I have Megapath DSL.. very happy.. everything went as planned, and have only had a couple minutes of downtime over the past 3-4 months.

I'm still undecided (about Telocity) and will see how my cousin likes it first since he just subscribed to them. The quality/performance will depend many other factors but mainly their "backbone" and their equipment/personnels for your particular area. But you got to admit, their no "locked in" contract sounds pretty good along w/their free rentals of equipment/s.

Try: Here and here for more infos pertaining to your particular area.

man, do not use Telocity. it really blows. i had road runner and then tried telocity just to compare and road runner left telocity in the dust. i have had nothing but problems. please subscribe to a better service. this is a recommendation based on experience. good luck. 😀

Check out DSL reports for a larger sampling. From what I can see there, Telocity seems to be one of the better ISP's. A lot of what happens with you will depend on where you live since often times problems come from your local phone company instead of your ISP.

geesh...i hear all you guys bitch about this service or that, suggesting this one or that...and i sit here wishing i at least had the option to GET a dsl or cable service. 🙂 guess i shouldn't whine too loud or they'll take away my 56k.
