Tell us your purchase, HD 6900s.

Well I said in another thread I didn't want to spend more than $350 on a card not counting shipping. Newegg has most HD 6950s at $299 and the HD 6970s at $369. So I decided to splurge and bought a HD 6970. This will be replacing a Sapphire HD 4670 1GB DDR3.

Gigabyte HD 6970s are already sold out so I went with Sapphire. I've used Sapphire cards for the last few years and they haven't given me any trouble.

That will be a huge performance difference. Have fun.

I think I'm going to sit this generation out, my 5850 is good enough for now.

I'm sitting out too. Maybe I'll look at the 6990, or just wait for the 7xxx series.

That's one major upgrade, Dark. What CPU are you running?

I'll be getting an ASUS EAH6950 when they're available. Going to replace my EVGA GTX470 SC+. I know it isn't very much of a performance gain, but I currently have an issue with my GTX470 artifacting when starting Windows or at the Windows logon screen. It doesn't happen every boot. I only noticed it started happening when using any driver newer than 258.96.

I like that the 6950 is cooler, quieter and uses less power. An additional bonus is if I want to I will be able to buy another one in a year or so to crossfire them. My current chipset doesn't support SLI. That probably won't make much of a difference since I currently plan on building a new system in the last quarter of 2011.

I'm going to sell my GTX470 to a friend after I RMA it. This upgrade, although small, shouldn't cost me much more than $100.

Edit: I'm considering going for the ASUS EAH6970 as well. It is already listed on Newegg, but is currently deactivated. I personally don't think 10-15% performance is worth $70 and if I needed the extra performance I could put two 6950s in crossfire. I'll give it about another two and a half hours, but if I can't order the ASUS brand cards by then I'm going to sleep.

I went on a bit of a splurge and bought the XFX 6970 as well as a Gigabyte 5870, the one that comes with a free 1TB Seagate. I could have bought a GTX 580 for $160 less than the 2 cards but this allows me to upgrade both my main box (4870 512 currently) and my lanbox (8800GTS 512 currently).

I'm actually not really sure what I was thinking. I'll probably regret dropping $700 (after shipping but before rebates) on these 2 cards but oh well, I had the money budgeted.

Because I had to replace my entire car suspension I'm stuck running an ancient P4 3ghz HT with with 1.3 gigs of ram. My HD 4670 is connected to a Dell SP2309W that's running native at 2048 x 1152.

I have a HAF 932, Corsair H1000 Watt, Noctura CPU cooler, & BD-Rom drive just waiting for me to finish my new Core i7 build. I decided to jump on the HD 6970 while they're still cheap and because I know nothing else but low end & halo duel GPU cards are coming out for roughly a year.

The problem for me now is that we're close to Sandy Bridge's launch and it'll take me at least until the end of January before I can afford the last few parts I need. Oh well.

I'm having a major quandry - 6970 for £280 or 570 for £250. Life can be tough at times right.

My monitor is a measly 1650x1080 (so 570 wins), but I'd like to add a 27" big resolution (for graphics work) - but even then, I don't think there's much need to game at 2560x1600 (unless it's an older game), so I imagine I'd just drop the res.

I like the lower power, temp and noise of the 6970, but I get the feeling my main game (yet to be released SoW BoB) will do better with nvidia, although I'm not sure (it will be DX11, no tesselation). Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

2x sapphire 6950s ordered although I really wanted an Asus which has an aluminum faceplate and is over clocked 10mhz (LOL). Looking back the Gigabyte might be a better buy with a 3 years warranty vs Sapphires 2 years. Anyway, cant wait 🙂

still confused by the results but i'm considering GTX 580 SLI, 6970 CF or 6990

Well the HD 6970s get better performance in CF than GTX 580s in SLI. And we know that performance or at the very least stability for the HD 6970s should get better with the next driver release that's supposed to be big.

I wanted a Gigabyte as well. In the last 5 years I've bought 3 Sapphire cards and all of them are still running fine today. They're an ok brand to use.

I didn't wake up early enough to get one of the Gigabytes to match my board, but I did grab a Sapphire 6970 from NewEgg and now my wallet is crying. Looks like my student loans will not be paid down any this month 🙁

I am finally replacing my old 8800GTX which has served me faithfully since its launch, so this is a significant upgrade for me.

I just got the GTX 460 1GB and I'm perfectly happy with it. When I need more performance, I'll go to overclocking before I consider buying a new card. It's going to be 7xxx or whatever nV has that will be next on the agenda.

I just purchased the eVGA 570SC for $361.99 at mwave. It is just under 580 performance being the SC model so it bests either Radeon for single card performance. Its going to be nice playing games with all the goodies turned on again. I've been squeezing every last bit out of my current 8800GT SLI setup. Just recently went to 1920x1200. It's tough decision time for us! I know I wont need higher resolution and I prefer nVidia. I just hope they can bump their SLI performance by next holiday when I'll be ready to go SLI again!!

Ordered the XFX 6950. I'm upgrading from a 5750, which was just a place holder when my 8800 GTX died earlier this year.5750 will go into my old/ backup PC.

I was tempted to go for the GTX 570, but I wanted to stay around $300. I wish Nvidia had come out with its GTX 560 by now, priced to compete at $300.

they might as well just drop the 570 price since the 6970 pretty much matches it in everything

Best bang for the "high end" bucks now is get 570 and oc it. Depending where you're located, you can get the 570 on Amazon for $350 and that's including free shipping and no tax to many state. CA residents don't like tax, I hear.

Yeah I gotta pay tax on all Newegg shopping, but Newegg usually has really good deals so it's ok. Sometimes Amazon.com will beat Newegg due to lack of sales tax (and Amazon always has free SUPER SAVER shipping for the kinda stuff we're buying here)

Yeah, best bang for you buck right now is without a doubt the 570 OC it seems. They overclock better than the regular 570's too, going up to 850mhz and surpassing 580 performance for just $370.

currently using a sapphire 4850 512mb and im thinking of going to any 6950 or possibly strech to a 6970.

good upgrade or not?
