$1300 seems a bit high for 42" but then I haven't been pricing the LCDs. How does SD content look on it?

trying to do decent tv and decent surround for ~ 1500... this seems to fit the bill. And the majority of the time it will be displaying my Wii (480p) :)

b/c you can get a panasonic plasma for nearly the same price. If you want LCD, I'd go with a 1080p model in that price range like the Westinghouse.

Consider the Panny 42" plasma at about the same price
or
The 42" Westinghouse LCD (720p, no tuner) for $899

It's not a bad price IMO. Amazon has the same tv for 100 bucks more.

Price a Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Hitachi, Sony, Sharp, and Samsung.... They are all great TVs...I've heard some bad things about Philips, but don't have any stories to tell. Just make sure the ratings for this set are good and the price is competitive. Then go for it. Olevia has a 37" set through TigerDirect for $699 after $50 MIR through 11/30. You might want to check them out if you can deal with losing the 5" diag.

No VGA input if you plan to use a HTPC with it. You'll not be able to get native resolution (1366x768) with HDMI and it'll be PITA to deal with overscans.

Here's why. The 1280x720 image will be scaled up to fit the panel. Like I said in that other thread, set a computer LCD's resolution to something lower than native, and see how you like it.

I don't understand why they don't just make these panels in 1280x720!!

I have a 42" Toshiba 1080p LCD. While it is an amazing unit, my old xbox games over 480p component cables look like crap on it. I'd post a screen cap if I were at home... it's not quite unplayable, but its just ugly to upscale that poor of a source to that resolution.

If you're gonna be playing lots of Wii, keep the resolution low. Only thing that matters is progressive scan.
