I ordered this:
http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=210998077
210998077.jpg

and got this:
2010-05-06%2019.21.02.jpg

Did I miss some part in the description/picture where it says this is a generic Motorola charger that isn't anywhere close to an HTC charger?

No joke, I just went through same ordeal. I got a car mount/charger combo for the moto droid... and the charger didn't even fit, even though the mount that came boxed with it did!

I just went through a battle with almost the same exact charger. I could have got it from Monoprice for $2 shipped but this one was HTC branded, so I could eliminate the car charger as the source of my charging problems (my phone only charges upside down).

The point is that its nothing close to the description or picture.

I don't know anything about the brands. The one you got shipped doesn't look as nice as the one in the picture, but it /should/ still work as long as the connector fits. If you want to get pissed off at something, get pissed that a normal USB cord won't work to charge a phone. I guess they flip the pins around or something, but it's complete bullshit that a normal cable that you probably have 20 of won't work.

This thread reminds me of the fast food ads vs reality photos.

I would be fine if it was still HTC braned but looked different. But the thing they sent me can't possibly be a mistake or a substitute. Its 100% different. It would be like ordering a Whopper and getting a McDouble.

The bottom charger is the HTC Elite line. It's so Elite that they don't mark or market it.

It's a third-party retailer. I usually avoid them like the plague on buy.com and amazon.com.

Latent drugs/alcohol must have kicked in. I thought it was a hair dryer.

I'd say someone, somewhere missed something.

No, thats like ordering a big mac and getting a whopper. They are still both burgers right?

True, you guys have the better analogy. For some reason I thought the 2nd photo was a random HTC unit instead of a generic.

Are you sure it's not a mistake on their end?

They finally emailed back and said "sorry, we'll send the right one".

We'll see. At this point I left a nasty feedback and will leave it there until I'm happy.

I can't tell if there will BE a right one, considering they list the manufacturer (on the buy.com page) as "Crazyondigital".
The one pictured on their site is the official HTC model. I've never heard of Crazyondigital, so I'm assuming you got the third-party model manufactured by that brand.

The HTC model is HDC-02. Search for that and you'll get the right unit.
Nothing on that page remotely resembles the official model number or information.

Who looks at a picture of something, and only that, and doesn't read the product description?

In store it's kind of an implied task. Online, it's absolutely mandatory if you want to avoid these kinds of problems.

The company will help, but they didn't sell him the official model. So if he thinks, based on his own misunderstanding, that he is entitled to the official HTC model, he's wrong.

I hate deceptive marketing just as much as the next guy, but they were upfront and honest in the product description.

I have a car charger that I tried a few times for my G1, no problems with it. It's not HTC branded but it's cingular, can use it with other miniusb stuff.
Also have the "official" g1 usb to pc cable if you want em as well.

Just pay a couple bucks shipping and it's yours.

You got the right thing. Nowhere did it say it was an HTC product.

My whole thing was that I wanted to try an HTC branded one. I appreciate the offer though.
