Ok here is my current rig....

Abit IP35 Pro
Q6600 @ Stock
Antec P180B - 3 X 120mm fans (2 med 1 high)
EVGA - GeForce 7600GT
2 X 1GB DDR2 SD Ram 800
1 Optical and Hard Drive

all running on a 450VX did a stability test for 26hrs it was all OK......now i will be upgrading

Stock Cooler to Arctic Cooler 7 Pro
GeForce 8600GT / GTS
Additional Fan with Speed Control (SILVERSTONE FM121-B 120mm Case Fan)
Additional Hard Drive (SATA)
2 Cold Cathodes

Ok i am not a HARD CORE gamer...more into multitasking with Photoshop and other Design Prog...but i do occasionally play and when i do i play for long hours...but like i said i dont go around playing all the games on the market.....

Will i still be safe on a 450VX ???

Yes you will be. What are all the case fans for though? You're not even overclocking. I run mine on med * the lower chamber one * and low/low in my p182.

You don't need a better PSU, you system will draw less than 300W for sure even if OC'ed. You'd need a better hsf than the Arctic Cooling though, thats not gonna cut it for a Quad at 3 GHz at acceptable temps. I'd go with at least a Scythe Mine Rev. B.

tuniq tower is a better cooler than the scythe. thermalright ultra 120 extreme is the best but it's about $80 including the fan (which must be bought separately).

nope. $68 on SVC.com. Ultra 120 extreme is $54.99 and Scythe SFF21F is $12.99

Has anyone tried replacing the stock Tuniq Tower fan with a Scythe SFF21F and compared the difference?

I wouldn't go with the Scythe Mine either, my Scythe Ninja couldn't keep my quad below 85c load at 3ghz..

If temps is the main concern, it's unlikely that switch would be beneficial, as the Tuniq Tower's fan is 2000 RPM max vs. 1600 RPM max of the S-Flex.

But i know the S-Flex is very quiet; not sure on the Tuniq's (you'd know that, as you have it).

The Tuniq is inaudible over my regular case fans until 1600 RPM, at which point it becomes clearly audible and at 2000 RPM's it's quite loud. To be clear - the fan never has that high-pitched whine that my old P4's stock cooling fan had.

I ask about the Scythe only because I thought I recalled AnandTech suggesting the Scythe might be among the reasons the Ultra 120 Extreme out performed the Tuniq. Not the sole reason, mind you. :p

link? how much is shipping? Is that the same fan that anandtech used in their cpu cooler test? I'd be interested to see what difference in sound and performance different fans have with the TR. I should have listed that as one of the reasons that I bought the tuniq.

haha, just read nosoup4you's post. my thoughts exactly. I'm perfectly happy with my tuniq, but I'm not running a 3.6 ghz quad, either...

the only thing i could see you would need to change like everyone else is the cooler. I had an arctic cooler and it could only bring my speeds to 2.7ghz i then bought the zalman 9700NT (got it cheap, otherwise it would be thee 120extreme or the tuniq tower) i was able to reach 2.95ghz with the zalman over the acrctic cooler.

There's no way to tell if you'll be safe for 3 years. Technology changes, best thing is to play it by ear and keep with the latest technological developments.

I know for my needs, your system would be inadequate now, its weak video card and only 2B of RAM would need to be upgraded. In all likelihood, you'll be adding more RAM and a better video card in less than 18 months.

The only thing I can say is that honestly... you will probably upgrade - not because you will have to but because you will want to. Something will come out that will be too good to believe and hold off on... something will be available that you will want to get and try. Something will come out that will have everyone talking (like when the C2D's came out).

Either that or you might simply NEED more drive space. That's it. If you don't game a lot, I don't see how you will need anything else. You might find down the road that you MUST have a quieter system or a cooler temp wise system. Then you might start messing around with different fans or fan/hs combos etc. Again.. dinky things.

My father uses the comp I built him 4 years ago pretty much all day. He does normal stuff... nothing serious but uses that thing for hours a day. It's an AMD Barton 2500+ and still rocking. He never NEEDS to upgrade -- it's more of a want when something comes out and he actually pays attention and decides... "yeah I guess it's time to get something new" like he did when he replaced his 10 year old 19" CRT to a 20" LCD. But the rig remains the same.

Yes. Perfectly. Those Corsair PSUs (made by Seasonic) can really put out the stable power.

Have you tried modding the mounts? That is, swap out the plastic push pins for some metal nuts/bolts. A few people have done that with the Ninja and report lower temps, sometimes by a lot.

I have the original Ninja, that came with the backplate, rather than those crappy plastic push pins.
