I am going to buy a A8V Deluxe from NewEgg but I want to make sure I fully understand how to update the bios and drivers for this mobo. On the Asus website, they don't provide any documentation at all for these steps.

Here's a link to their downloads page for this mobo:
http://usa.asus.com/support/do...ModelName=A8V%20Deluxe

The first item is the A8V Deluxe BIOS 1007. When I unzip the file, it's a . AMI file extension. I have no clue what to do with this or how to install it.

The next item is the Afudos BIOS update tool V2.11. This is an .EXE file so I assume I just run the program. But what does it do exactly? Is this going to help me create a floppy disk to update the bios?

Ok, stupid question time. Assuming I get the bios downloaded and put on a floppy or whatever, how do I actually install it? Do I need to hit a key during boot up? Do I have to set the bios to boot from floppy? Keep in mind that I have zero experience with DOS.

Also, their drivers page has downloads for the Realtek AC'97 (audio) along with stuff from the Promise controllers, USB controllers, Cool and Quiet, RAID and other assorted stuff. Do I really need to download and install all of this stuff or should it work fine out of the box?

to install the update, jsut rename the .ami file to a8v.rom and put it on a floppy. then on boot, have that floppy in and the asus cd-rom in your cd-rom drive, and press alt-f2. It will automatically flash the bios to the new version. Alternatively, you can jsut run the asus update utility on the cdrom after installing windows.
all the other drivers are on the cd that comes wiht the board.

You don't need the CD in for the flash...just the floppy with A8V.ROM file and an Alt/F2 key press on boot. The CD contains a bios recovery.....does anybody on this forum know how to read instructions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
