I bought a Honda CRV 3 years ago for $32k.

I just got some junk mail from a local a dealership. It says they're willing to offer me $26,290 for the car. It also came with a scratch off card to win extra cash. My card won $7,500. Assuming this is all true, I could get $33,790 for my car, which sounds pretty damn good. My bullshit meter is tripped, but the offer is too good to not at least consider it a little bit.

So tell me, is this standard car dealership bullshit or actually some kind of legit thing? I'm assuming they're just trying to get me in the door so they can sell me crap.

There is an asterisk somewhere that says that's the maximum dollar amount offered depending on condition.

1) The $26K figure is based on some sort of unattainable condition like fewer than 4 miles on the odometer. You'll never get offered anything close to that.

2) The card won't be for cash, it'll be for $7,500 in "shopping" at one of those scam sites where the catalog is filled with items like $50 + mandatory $30 shipping for a digital picture frame worth $15 and $299 + $199 shipping for a 26" flatscreen.

You got junk mail from a car dealer...you really don't need to ask us if this is legit.:/

your trolling....
when somebody tells you to do the obvious to see if its true you respond like a child...
but then they'll get my phone number and call me every Wednesday at 1pm like that Jeep dealership has been doing for the past 5 years....

First thing I'd do is tell the salesperson to fuck off and leave me alone, then I'd block his number.

wtf every wednesday for 5 years?

wow.

persistent bastards aren't they.

That Jeep dealership was awful. After looking at a car and talking to a sales guy for a few minutes, I decided to leave. The sales guy and his manager stood in front of the door to prevent me from leaving while the manager basically tried to shame me for wasting their time claiming I owed them a test drive. I had to gently push them out of the way to leave. Absolutely relentless tactics.

They got my phone number because I called to ask about a few things before driving over. They've been calling me nonstop ever since.

Protip: Create a free Gmail account for junk email & Google Voice. Anytime you go to a dealership, look at a house, sign up for anything - use that. You can setup GV on your smartphone. Also, if you have to write down your address & you want to get paranoid about it, add in a random extra number or letter. Like if you live at 187 Ford Drive, make it 187a Ford Drive, that way you know who is selling your information.
