Tell me fun places to go in ATL

z1ggy

Lifer
Going to ATL next monday-thurs for business. Looking for good places to eat and hang out after my day. Looking for decent restaurants, bars, strip clubs.. Places like that. I won't be out from the conference until 4:30-5pm so museums and places like that will probably be closed.

Also looking to avoid sketchy parts of town.

Edit: If you name a place like, "The Oyster Shack" or something, let me know if it's a food place, bar, club, etc etc. Thanks.

If you like burgers and don't mind smoke (not sure how they get around this), The Vortex is quite good. 2 locations depending on side of town.

Really going to depend on whether you are downtown or in Buckhead. Absolutely cannot go wrong with the prior suggestions of the Varsity (near Ga. Tech, 10th St.) and the Vortex (one on Peachtree St. and one in Little 5 Points, east of downtown a few miles). Depending on your tastes, L5P has always been sort of Atlanta's "Little Bohemia" so you may love it or hate it, but if you love it, there's tons of ways there to kill time/get into trouble...

If naked girls are your thing, your best bets are the Cheetah (downtown) if you are a lottery winner or independently wealthy, and if you're not, the Pink Pony (up towards Lenox/Cheshire Bridge Rd. area).

Hahaha yeah Im not looking to spend a fortune...Would prob make it a pit stop one night, looking to spend like.. $50 max.

How much is a cab??

Also, am staying at the hotel that is directly next to the airport. My conference is also in the hotel, so my company are being a$$holes and not giving me a rental. I need a cheap way to get into downtown...Any other options besides cab? Public transit?

The Aquarium isn't bad, but go on a week day so it isn't packed.

The strip clubs are kind of hit and miss, in my experience. The nicer ones are only good if you're willing to drop a ton of money (Cheetah Club, for example). The more dive ones I've been to were just kind of depressing.

Visit the clairmont lounge. A strip club for old chicks.

.....No....

I'm a young dude. Looking to go to places where the age range is like 20-30 years old or so. Not sure if people party down there on weekdays, but there has to be some place fun.

Also, do southerners down there dislike us Yanks from up north? I hear the women can be very nice and inviting as opposed to the bitchy chicks up here.

There is a nice little Massage parlour that stays open 24 hrs a day down on 2nd street in ATL.......you can entertain 3 girls for the price of one after midnight.....

actually The Oyster Shack in ATL is a strip club......

That's why I said specify. That name could be good for food, strippers.. anything.

I'll do some research tonight on where all the UGA chicks tend to go hang out. I'm going with another guy from work who's my age, so I won't be out alone.

Can you recommend me any places where the muffled screams of buttrape can't be heard? That'd be ideal.
It Atlanta, I doubt too many people would notice.

What part of town are you going to be? Atlanta typically includes Marietta and sometimes Alpharetta and outlying areas to the North... You mentioned UGA...that's up in Athens...you may see some UGA folk downtown, but there are more GA Tech folks right downtown.

Sites to see.... Underground Atlanta....kind of scary at night, but this is a mall that was built where the old city used to be...was burned in the Civil War....read up on it. World of Coke is there.

The Georgia Aquarium is one of the best in the country....probably 2-3 hours worth of fish to see there if you get bored...

Buckhead is where you'll find a lot of the cooler bars....more upscale area though and you pay the price for it. This is north of downtown a bit....near the Lenox Square Mall...basically where people go to pay full retail for everything.

Download a restaurant app for your phone or something, enter your hotel's address and look up Atlanta to see what's close to where you're staying...you might get some more ideas based on where you're going to be. Traffic is bad enough in that city that it can take 50+ minutes to from the Marietta to the Airport just when traffic is slow.

Taco Mac (the original one on...Highland?) for beer+wings if you're into that. It's a chain now, so maybe not as cool/funky/good as I remember.

Bones to spend a ton of money on steak.

The aquarium for awesomeness.

My hotel is right next to the airport... Literally I think it's attached/a short walk away. The conference I'm attending is in the hotel.

What is "expensive" down south? Up here in the northeast, a well drink is like $5-7. I hope it's not more than that. And that's not even at a nice place up here, that's typical. I was in manhattan 2 weeks ago and paid $24 for 2 drinks. I'm getting $75 a day per diem, and I'm pretty sure lunch is free, so that means I probably get around $60 a day for dinner & fun time.

Yeah I didn't real the main UGA stuff was in Athens. Ugh Tech reminds me of where I went to college. 70% dudes, and the remaining 30% of chicks think they are hot shit because the ratio forces guys to hit on them.

I have my name on the wall at one of the locations for drinking just about every flavor they sold.

They used to sell a Buffalo Burger....was an awesome burger with swiss cheese, mayo, and their wing sauce on top. Eventually around 2006, they changed their bread and decreased the size of the burger....wasn't ever the same....but they have decent wings and queso dip. It's a decent bar...

Depending on proximity, if you're seeking out the smaller places and not the chains....good luck. Just about every major restaurant/bar chain can be found in the ATL market....so there are a lot of good options to choose from. Taco Mac is probably one of the better options because they typically have over 200 beers to choose from and 50+ taps depending on location.

That blows that you're out by the airport. Look up public transit in Atlanta.... "MARTA" is the rail line there...you can catch a train to Buckhead or downtown. I've ridden it from Dunwoody to the Airport before and it wasn't too bad...

Sold.

Are southern chicks, or gals down south much nicer in general? Nobody really answered that. I hate when I go to a girl at a bar up here and you get shunned before you even say anything because people are so hostile. Nothing wrong with chatting, I'm not out to rape all of you... Just some...

^jk obviously.

ATL is just like every other major city as far as women...if you are looking for southern belles you need to get out of town.
