My company is opening a new help desk in Denver. I'm going. And staying.

For this Southern California boy, what (besides snow) do I have to look forward to? Areas I should be wary of moving into? What stores are in Denver? What is there to do besides camp and ski and hang out in bars?

The new office is opening in the spring, but I'm going out early... Exactly when I don't know yet, but probably Jan or Feb. Once I get settled and get a place the family will follow.

My wife found a 4 bedroom 2 bath house with den and garage online for $800 a month. Is this a typical house rental?

TIA

Denver itself is a pretty ugly city. But from Denver you can see the Rocky mountains to the west.

Lot's of sun. Cheaper real estate prices than SoCal. I feel that it's a more relaxed atmosphere here than in SoCal.

$800/mon for that house is decent - what city is it in?

It's actually in the Denver city limits. Don't know anything else though... Wife might.

Now, though, an old manager just called me a few minutes ago saying he had an offer for me in Irvine. LoL!!!

I love being in demand! ;)

What part of the city, or suburbs is that house in? Where will the office be located?

of all the places out west i've considered moving to, denver has always been my top choice.

i don't know much about it though :) other than that it doesn't usually get that much snow and it's way cheaper to live there than where i am now (washington dc)

Denver is disgusting. I'm sitting in Lakewood looking downtown and the horizon isn't where the sky meets the ground, it's where the sky meets the brown cloud. I'm 100% serious when I say that in the distance, the color of the cloud and the color of the ground are similar enought that it's difficult to tell where one ends and the other begins.

Of course, Colorado Springs is far enough south that it's not an issue. But then you're going to be colder.
