First let me start off showing you what looking at things being color blind (at least my type) looks like, so you can understand a little better at how people see the world every moment of everyday of their lives.

I'm 'M-cone absent'. What this means to me, and you being the people helping me consider this, is that I would like a TV with great black levels. Since I can and never will be able to enjoy content the way the director fully intended, I'd like to indulge myself in the spectrum areas that will make a more enjoyable viewing experience.

So far I've focused on plasma for it's black levels. I'm also interested in smooth motion, another plasma point.
Essentially I don't need THX accurate color, because there is no correct color for men like myself.

Is there any tv or model in particular that might have fantastic black levels and motion, possibly at the expense of color accuracy and price? ? :)

Thanks in advance, I know it's a strange question.

As with sound, the closer the tv/speaker is balanced to neutral, the closer it will seem to be as reality. It doesn't matter what kind of sight/hearing deficiency you have. I have slight M-cone reduction (I think). On the 10th image, I can barely pick out the difference between Normal and m-cone reduced when A/B testing. Most normal vision folks will probably see a "definite" difference.

In any case, if you balance the TV to "make up" for your deficiency, it will look unnatural to you (as your brain is used to seeing m-cone absent) and anyone else who watches the TV will think your TV is broken.

In my honest opinion, the best viewing/listening experience is the one that brings you as close to real life. This is going to be the reference neutral accurate presentation. Any other balance will just be "colored" and hit/miss.

With that said, I am looking at the Panasonic 50G10. I can't afford the Panasonic 50V10 as there is a 750$+ price difference right now.

First thing you should do is ignore the 'dynamic' contrast ratio as this is the difference between white and black when that is the only thing on the screen (I.e. all white screen / all black screen). This number really means nothing, unless you are into using your TV as a flashlight. A true contrast ratio is the difference between the whitest portion and the darkest portion of the screen when they are being viewed at the same time.

Any of the good plasma (Samsung, Panasonic, etc) can be found at good deals and have better contrast ratio than (most) non-big name brands. You have also learned that Plasma handles motion better than most LCD's. Important if you like to watch a lot of hockey or golf. I would still go for a 1080p if you are looking at 42" or above for the additional detail. (Yes, LG and Vizio both make a 720p 32" Plasma).

Of couse a lot of the contrast ratio has to do with the source, also...which you didn't mention...so take that into consideration, too.

I love the G10 but it doesn't have DLNA which is a requirement for what I want to do. It has the best black levels on the market today from what it looks like.
I'm not looking for color shifting or adjustments to compensate for my deuteranopia. I'm looking for spectacular black performance and motion performance (good 24P support for example), so the parts I'm not missing out on in my visual experience are maximized for my enjoyment. I dont want to know that I see some f-'d up discoloration compared to how it's supposed to look, then also have poor black performance and judder on top of that.
As far as sound, I'll probably pick up a sound bar from Samsung or a wireless 5.1.. anything with a large subwoofer. But I haven't approached that part of my researching yet.

I don't know what DLNA is, but if you are worried about 24P playback, then jump to the V10 series. I, personally, cannot afford the V10 series yet...

Best deal going now by far is the Pioneer KRP-500M (50" plasma). Best black level of any TV (including the 9G Pioneer Elites, but excluding the Elite Sig 101 which it is on par with) and can now be ISF calibrated (optional). It can be had for a great price too (I believe around $2K). I don't know if that is in your price range though. Oh, and it has no speakers, stand or tuner so take that into consideration also.

Ended up getting the PN50B650. Beautiful tv, images and fleshtones look 3D like they're coming off the screen. Def the best choice for me.
