The lines coming off the main pole are all for Telephone but one, the main power line running to the meter on the house. When it gets really windy, it's not a pretty site and I get parranoid as hell.

Just curious on who to call to get the tree trimmed? If I can get it done free that's great. If I have to pay, oh well.

1--- Do it myself? Not a wise choice as I only have a 10ft step ladder anyway :Q
2--- Call the Telephone company?
3--- Call the Power company?
4--- Hire a tree trimming service?

Sorry for the blurry pic, but you get the idea.

Power companies keep dedicated tree-triming companies on their payroll to do that exact job.

Asplundh is an example, there are some others in different regions.

Call your Power Company and they will dispatch the appropriate company, they pick up the cost, it's their service work.

Call the Power company first, because those lines are the most dangerous if they get knocked down.

Are those lines running from the pole to your house, or from pole to pole? If from the pole to your house, it's probably your responsibility to keep the tree trimmed, but I'd call the power company first just to make sure.

The power cable looks like it is a Tri-Plex insulated conductor.

Has this feeder failed before? Chances are that it will not as the insulation on this cable is top notch. But it look like it would be a simple job to trim the tree.

The power company is responsible. That said, at least around here when the power company trims trees, they pretty much cut half the tree off so they never have to worry about it again. If you value the tree, you probably should have it done yourself.

#3 the power company has crews for this. They'll be more than happy to do it for free, since the trees could cause a short and those lines are making them money.

Thanks guys. Power Company it is :)
Not much trimming would be involved to the tree. Just a couple smaller branches.

Your link does'nt work pontifex, but I have seen where they've removed half the tops of trees to make way for power lines.

Has'nt failed and have had no problems with it yet :)
And to answer the other question....... The lines coming from the pole are going directly to tele. boxes and power meter on the house.

I still wouldn't want it getting tangled in the tree during a storm. :p
