Given all the laws regarding off-list, opt-out, and do-not-call, there is really is zero excuse to complain about telemarketing calls anymore.

I do, however, continue to loathe and despise people who call my number looking for someone in debt. I've started threatening the crap out of them and they pretty much finally all stopped. They REFUSED to believe that "Edna Banks" didn't live at my name. Grr...

Not in Australia. We still have jerks from India and the like calling us around meal times, private numbers, etc., and there aren't nearly enough regulations yet to stop them. Boy, does it get me going...

This is why it is unlawful to telemarket to a cell phone. You simply inform the telemarketer that they called a cell phone, ask them to remove your number from their list (i.e. off-list), and hang up. Quick and easy.

Yelling at a telemarketer, flipping out, chewing them out, etc. is the most stupid thing you can do. They're just regular people doing their jobs so they don't deserve it, but also they hear it all the time, are completely calloused to it, laugh when you're done, and mark you in the computer for a person who showed interest and needs more callbacks later. Seriously, that's what they do.
OTOH, if you tell them to take you off their list, that is a legally-binding contract against that company, and they cannot call back your number again.

If you don't recognize the number, or if doesn't show one, don't answer. It's very simple.
