I need help, I can't windows to boot with my scsi card in. I've heard that it is very resource picky.

My Setup:
ASUS CUV4X - D
2x pIII 733
1024 mb pc133 Ram
Radeon 8500dv
Philips Seismic Edge 5.1
Linksys lne100tx v1

What IRQ's are you using with your system, I would really like to get my card working.

PLEASE HELP!!

Thank you!!!

EDIT: System does post, detects card and everything. Just freezes after the bios prints out PCI Device Listing... (then all my devices)

It will only detect the card in the 2nd pci slot. I have tried all the others, in fact i have tried every single possible combo with all my cards. Only the card in the 2nd slot works. I just need to figure out why it won't boot into windows, it wont even boot off a boot disk. I am almost positive it is an irq problem.

I assume that you have created under DOS a Tekram driver floppy that you are using when you installed Windows 2k or when prompted to inserte the driver disk? Or, perhaps you are not getting to that stage?
Please give more info on your operating system and whether the card was detected and driver installed or not when you first inserted the card.
Also is your hard drive on which your OS is installed on the Tekram card or elsewhere?
Thank you.

OS is on my ide drive. I can't even get into windows to install the drivers, thus i have no drivers installed. I have followed the tekram instructions completely, i just get stuck before i can install drivers.

During POST, have you hit Control-S (I think it is), then gone into the Tekram setup screens to "detect" whatever is attached to the card?
Try it and hit "enter" during some of those screens so that the card is officially "set up", then see if Windows completes its loading.

Then, the only thing I can think of is to use a different PCI slot. Since you have a dual CPU system, you must be using Windows 2000 Prof which I think shares IRQs easily. But, I recall that SCSI cards still are picky about which PCI slot they will use.

Sorry I cannot be of more help.

How do you have the card jumpered? Is it set to 64 bit/66mhz? That mobo doesn't have a 64 bit slot AFAIK. Jumper it to 32 bit/33mhz.

Double check your bios settings as far as boot order and devices. Disable boot to "other". Maybe try disabling "qulet boot" and "Intel rapid bios boot" if present in the mobo bios.

Good luck

My SCSI is listed in Device Manager as Interrupt 16
and under controllers is stated:
Location 1 (PCI bus 0, device 8, function 0)
Location 1 (PCI bus 0, device 8, function 1)
There are two functions listed because of the two separate SCSI connectors.
I think that I have it in my 1st or 2nd PCI slot, cannot recall.

Yes my onboard ide controller has my boot drive for now. Once I can get my scsi card to work, I will boot from it.

I have it jumpered to 32/33 if it wasn't the computer wouldn't post. That was my first problem.

I also have it disabled to boot from because I don't have a boot drive on it.

Thanks for the help so far.

I still think the problem is related to which PCI slot the card is in. If you feel energetic, pull all your PCI cards out, then try the Tekram in each PCI slot until it is recognized and works. Then reinsert your cards in the remaining slots.

Nothing like killing an hour or two before bed.

MCrusty...only remaining cause is that the SCSI card is envious of the blue LED fan that you have placed over the card on the motherboard. If you move the SCSI card to a PCI slot where it cannot see the blue LED, then it will not be so "distracted" and work just fine. This happens to my people at work all the time. I just move them to a different location and bingo, they start working again.

Ive allready done that, numerous times. Im about to give up and throw the card out into the pouring rain!

Take out all pci cards.
Put Tekram in PCI2.
Unplug your ide drive.
Change your boot order to CD, SCSI,...
Boot to CD with OS inserted.
Hit F6 so you can put in your scsi drivers.

You mean that even when there are no other PCI cards inserted, other than the SCSI card, you cannot boot into Windows? Wow. I give up.

Dug's suggestion to pull all the cards and the IDE drive is OK, except once you have booted from the CDROM and loaded the Tekram drivers, how do you get the IDE drive reconnected. You would have to turn off the machine to reconnect and when you do that you lose the drivers (? right). So, I don't see how disconnecting the IDE drive helps. But, of course, I have not given any better suggestion either. So, try something.
