Hmm,
William Hung's mom doesn't stand idly by
HONG KONG (AP) ? American Idol reject William Hung is back in hometown Hong Kong, where his mother made headlines Monday by telling him ? firmly and in public ? how to behave in a news conference.
"Mum's the word on William Hung's life," read a headline in the South China Morning Post, which added that the "singing `idol's' mother carefully guides son's showbiz career."
Hung was about to provide some details about an upcoming film to reporters Sunday, but his mother, identified only as "Mrs. Hung," quickly cut him off and told him not to spoil things by revealing too much.
The mother also told a photographer not to shoot her 21-year-old son from below head level because it makes him look "ugly," according to the Post account.
Hung lived in Hong Kong as a child and shot to fame in the United States in a bungled but earnest audition for the U.S. talent show, American Idol.
Hung won legions of fans by telling the judges he did his best and had no regrets about being panned for an awkward rendition of Ricky Martin's "She Bangs."
Hung, who studies in California, went on to sign a record deal and his album, Inspiration, sold nearly 100,000 copies in a month.
Hung is reportedly about to make his film debut alongside veteran Hong Kong actress Nancy Sit.
Asked by a reporter how he would spend his first million dollars, Hung turned to his mother, who said, "Tell her you are going to use it for your kids and their education."
Hung regurgitated the answer verbatim.
But Hung also insisted that he makes the "final decision" on career matters
