Do bad teeth turn you off? To the point of not wanting to speak with people that have less-than-perfect teeth? Got any general thoughts about it?

I wonder if this is a regional thing? Isn't the 'stereotype' that UKers have poor/bad teeth, and USAians are obsessed with good teeth?

It's probably not a regional thing as much as it is a personal thing w/ me. A few choice comments throughout one's life can create a whole maelstrom of self-confidence issues. For example, a few years ago, a generally very nice and thoughtful girl @ my office got into the habit of giving everyone beanie babies - the little stuffed animal jobbies. Every time she gave one to someone, she would say something like, "I got this one for you because ___ and it reminded me of you" etc etc. Well she gave me a bee because I "always seem to be hard at work" (busy as a bee, yadda yadda). But she had to add: "I couldn't find one with braces."

That comment stands out and brought me right back to high school when I became aware that people actually cared about things like how your teeth look. Pretty extreme example of a lame-ass comment, and to this day I still feel it was SO out of character for her. anyhoo.

I had braces so things got straightend out. However my wisdom teeth came along later and now I have a little crowding on my lower front teeth, not too noticable.

I don't remember exactly how old i was, but it was the stage of losing baby teeth. My adult canines were coming in, the only problem was the baby canines weren't falling out. When the adult canines were pretty much all the way in and the babys were still there my step-dad took it upon himself to remedy the situation without involving a dentist. One day while my mom was at work he pinned me down on the couch, a knee on each of my elbows so i couldn't move. He then proceeded to grab a pair of pliers and twisted/pulled out the baby teeth. As you can imagine since they weren't loose, it hurt ALOT. I think it took over well over ten minutes of him twisting and yanking on them before they came out. Needless to say I was screaming the whole time and never let him near my mouth again.

jesus. I thought that when my teeth were sensitive to cold that it was bad. (not sensitive anymore, it was just the filling).

 for the suffering you went through.

Ah, that's better....me likes  :D
