Have you had teeth whitening done at a dentist office? Were there any issues or problems like increased sensitivity afterwards (long-term)? Thanks.

Im just curious; I know that most likely, that kind of procedure wasn't covered by insurance, so how much did it run you?

mine was free, it was a promo my dentist was doing, I didn't notice a change, but everyone else oddly said 'wow your teeth are so white' ... I never thought they were, so it must have worked because nobody said it before.

I had some sensitivity after the application was taken off in the morning, but it was for maybe an hour or so.

Made my teeth feel clean! haha

If you do the power bleaching it can run between 500-900 bucks. If you get trays it is significantly cheaper and you can buy refill gel for about $20 a pop

I had it done, they have new stuff now that works in a day. I'd go with that. I did a 2 week long procedure and it sucked ass. Had to wear this stuff to bed in a clear mold of my teeth and the taste made me want to vomit.

My teeth were significantly more sensitive during the procedure, at certain times painful. But I had a bunch of cavities also. After I got my teeth whitened they fixed my cavities to match the new color of my teeth (which is why it had to be done in this order).

If I had to do it again, I'd go with the 1 day treatment they have now. Save myself the trouble.

Edit: No permanent sensitivity FYI. The reason for the temporary sensitivity is because it widens the pours in your teeth (and they shrink back down when you stop the nightly applications). Assuming you do the same crap I did.

free. it's a work benefit. :D

but i believe it costs about $200 for one arch and $300 for both, and we aren't in the city where it's likely more costly.

one good thing is you keep your custom made trays and so if you want to touch up your whitening all you have to do is buy more gel which runs about $25-30.

you may get insurance to pay for the exam and the impressions taken to make the bleaching trays if the dental office works it for you.

well then I got a hell of a deal for free then!

I had about 10 gel syringes and the teeth molding was free. those syringes lasted forever.

I may have to look into it. Thats dirt cheap compared to what I would expect to pay. I've flirted with the idea of teeth whitening for some time now...

My teeth arent yellow, but I wouldnt mind having them a few shades whiter. A few years of smoking and a couple cups of coffee a day

I did the bleaching trays. Cost me about $200 (upper and lower) + the cost of the gel. I noticed a big difference within a week or so but it also makes my teeth sensitive. My dentist recommended I use Sensodyne toothpaste to help with that and it seems to work fairly well.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the results.

gotta have the stain cleaned off them before you go for the bleaching.

I tried the crest whitening strips and I didnt the results I expected from them. Also, it was difficult to be consistent with them for a month.

I did, at my dentists suggestion, and used something that you squeezed into a mold and placed on your teeth like they do flouride treatments for kids.

It did work... brought them up a couple shades after a month or so.

I don't remember having any problems with it.

With using the tray/gel applications....... (someone in this thread said something about widening/openind of the pores in your teeth)

After an application, say you eat something with a lot of coloring in it or drink a dark soda. Would this affect the teeth coloring at all?

My dentist told me that Crest Whitestrips works just as well as what he can do and it is cheaper and convenient to use.

Got my wife Brite Smile for Mother's Day. Much whiter teeth initially but they quickly muted slightly and are now a nice natural white looking....still much whiter than they were. Some girls at the office had it done before so I knew it really worked. It was $249 or so.

She had a lot of sensitivity the first couple days and it has taken almost two weeks to pretty much completely go away.

diddo.

I did one set of the Crest White Strips Ultra and one set of Classic and the results were dramatic. Granted, its not a one time procedure. You have to wear the strips for 30 minutes about 30 times... But the total cost is about $60 and you can still talk with them in..

They work for sure. I've used the Whitestrips. They may be a little tricky sometimes, but they do work. I gave them to my mom too and she had noticeably whiter teeth.

But it seems the trays are a lot better once you have a custom mold.

My question to you is about the sensitivity: Is it just a temporary thing or it goes away after a week or two. I remember my teeth being more sensitive while using Crest whitening, but I don't think I noticed much after a little bit.

My dentist told me not to eat ANYTHING that would cause staining. I recall carrots, soda and coffee being specifically mentioned.

I've used the Crest White Strips also. They did work but the strips only covered 6 top and 6 bottom teeth. The trays are much nicer as they cover all my teeth....... Well, all except for my 2 wisdom teeth ;)

Those with big smiles :) , you can tell where the strip ended on the teeth (white, white, white..... YELLOW) **LOL**
