Teeth whitening products (Rembrandt, etc)... anyone tried them and do they work for a damn?

As the title states. Don't want to waste time and money on something that won't make a bit of difference....

I think the strips have some success, but to do it right you've got to pay the bucks. A few months back I dropped just over $200 on a full tooth mold setup and it made a good difference. I'm still doing it (just leaving a bit of time between each cycle of syringes of whitener to minimize any possible problems), but if you want white star-like teeth you have to drop the money. I know two women who have white perfect teeth and I decided I wanted some white ones too after years of coffee drinking and all that, and considering the vain benefits the cost is quite negligible, so I bought the same kits they used :) Have to see a dentist for it. I know that once I'm done this I will have teeth as consistently white as I want them :D

Yeah, I worked in a pharmacy for a number of years and have alot of experience with these products. Crest White Strips are a decent product, with good results. Natural White products often provide similar or better results at a lower cost. In addition i recommend picking up some "Sensodyne Whitening" to help with the sensitivity that often occurs with all of these products. As for the toothpastes like Rembrant, they don't work overly well, mainly due to contact time.

yeah it's all about contact time and concentration. That's why the whitening gums are such junk. The stuff I have stays in for at least one hour and has a concentration of whitener far higher than what you're allowed to sell on store shelves. I can literally see my teeth whiter after each time (actually what I see is a kind of chalky coloration on my incisors, but that fades shortly after - although you'll never get that effect for regular whitening products).

After I get my braces off I'm going to get my teeth whitened. Everybody I've talked to has said to get trays and whitening gel from a dentist.

ups

my sister got trays fit to her from a dentist
$400 for them i think, or something crazy like that (mold and whitener)

then, a couple months ago, her tooth broke and she got a crown (~$800)

which didnt fit the mold

the lady at the dentists office (secretary i guess) told her shed have to buy a new mold for another few hundred bucks....my sister keeps arguing that the crown, for $800, should match the tooth it replaced

ive told her since she spent $400 on a mold, she could have bought dozens of those whiteners in a store...bleh to her

Her dentist sucks donkeys. I paid $190 incl tax for my first kit. It included 10 colgate syringes (colgate was the brand for this stuff) and my molding. I think they gave a discount on the molding, but I know I can get new trays made for no more than $50 if I need. It only takes them 5-10 min and costs little in materials. I can buy extra syringes (good for about 5 full applications, since the spare syringes are discus dental as opposed to colgate and you're able to use them more sparingly) for $16/piece. I did the first 10 syringes and noticed good gains (I think around 11% active ingredient). I then did two of the 16% syringes and was getting better. I'm now 2/5 through a 22% syringe (highest they make), and by the end of this I expect I'll be all but finished my whitening, then touch up every several months.

My teeth to start were not hellish or anything but definite staining had occured from all my cola, coffee, etc. over the years. It was starting to get to the point where I didn't want to show them, and I know that by the time I'm done these treatments I'll be perfect.

If I had to do it again I'd probably get the molds made seperately by themselves and buy just the 22% syringes.

Anybody interested in this I find that lying on my back for the hour I do it and watching TV is best, because you may salivate like mad and unless you can constantly swallow it (yum!) you'll find the experience very uncomfortable. It's definitely worth it though. $200-250 to go from discolored teeth to movie-star white is money well spent IMO.

I used the crap you brush onto your teeth and it worked okay, but was a pain to use because you can't close your mouth (or drink beer) for 15 minutes after application.

Colgate's simply white I think? I tried it and didn't care for it. Much like crest's commercial for a similar product says, the colgate just comes off your teeth very quickly.

Most of these products do work to a degree, because they have an active ingredient that is applied to the tooth, but if you want teeth as white as those on the commercials for these products you really do have to see a dentist.

I just got the Colgate Simply White stuff tonight; for $12 I figure it's worth a shot.

What I can't figure out, is why my teeth are becoming discolored. I don't smoke, I don't drink tea or coffey (besides some ice tea in the summer), brush twice a day, gargle, ect.

I'm probably calcium deficient (I don't drink milk), could that possibly be it?

I use the crest white nightly or whatever it is.. you just put it on after you brush your teeth before you go to bed and brush it off in the morning.. it made a noticeable improvement and it wasnt as expensive as the whitestrips.
