I have wanted to get my teeth whitened for a while now. They aren't bad, but years of drinking coffee and occasional smoking have given me some stain.

A couple months ago I did an impulse buy on LivingSocial.com (just like Groupon), for 2 20 minute whitening sessions nearby.

Today I went to their webpage, and it's really shitty. I guess this is what I get for not doing any research ahead of time.

My question is - What is the current best method for whitening? Which options are permanent? Are there any risks? I don't care about the $90 I dropped on this deal - if there are better options I'll scrap it.

FYI here is the one I got - http://brightwaysmile.com/index.html

I went the easy route and did the Crest White Strips and it made a noticeable difference in the color of my teeth. I drink dark sodas so I did notice a difference but they make your teeth sensitive to cold but was worth it imo.

wife went to dentist and they had a technique called zoom whitening. took 1 hour and cost $299 dollars. huge difference, well worth it. look it up and find a dentist that does it

the strips work fine...but they can make your teeth sensitive

i also think they did more than that, after using strips a couple of years ago as suggested on the box (daily, or twice daily, i dont remember right now) i had 2 damn cavities. i dont know the last time that happened.

a chick i knew at school also had a couple of cavities right after using them, maybe its just coincidence, but the sensitivity is well known.

id suggest using them half as often as the package suggests, and just taking longer to go through them. mine hurt like hell when i used them regularly.

That's what I have heard too, which is why I've never used them. My dentist said that they could deteriorate your tooth enamel. I'm not sure how true this is, but I haven't had a cavity since I was a little kid, and I'd like to keep it that way.

I don't drink coffee, soda or smoke though so my teeth aren't really in need of whitening anyhow. Some people's teeth are so white from this they look freakish, like Ross on that friend's episode.
