I believe you are right...we probably saw different guards. The one I get from my dentist is a VERY tight fit. I mean I have to push it is place. Because of the tight fit, it barely feels like there is anything in there at all. Very comfortable to sleep in and no saliva formulating (which I found to be the case with the store ones). Sounds like a big YMMV though...

Mine is the same way. I have to bite down to get it into place.

Custom. Did the plaster crap in the mouth and got it about a week later.
I'm guessing my insurance covered it, but I didn't pay a dime. My dentist rocks.
4 Wisdoms removed~ nada out of pocket. several white fillings done nada out of pocket.
I've hit the jackpot :D

Wow that is an impressive plan!

I used to have a bite guard, but after a year it got loose and I kept gagging on it at night. Now I don't use it, instead I increased my exercise and focused on lowering my stress. Now I only grind when I'm under a lot of work (I can tell because I get headaches) or if I'm not getting enough sleep.

The problem with the guard is although it saved my teeth, it didn't help the headaches I get from clenching all night long.

That's the thing ~ im pretty positive it's not the plan but the dentist. Before I had the same plan and at a different dentist I had to pay like 400 bucks out of pocket for getting about 5 or 6 resin/composite filling above the gum line of my tooth because there were crevices forming (was told it was due to me grinding my teeth). Also 1 pulp cap. With this dentist nothing out of pocket. Each year I get, upto 1000 in coverage but I still have to pay a deductible etc.. My current dentist just doesn't charge me that.
So far he's done 5 resin/composite fillings 4 wisdom teeth removals, cleanings, x-rays, custom mouth guard for grinding and I paid nada. I <3 this dentist.
This is over a 2 year period. 5 resin fillings and 2 wisdom teeth removal with xray cleaning mouthguard was done in 1 year. 2 additional was last year. My benefits renewed this year so I have to think about what to get done :D
