Teens Blame GTA for Stealing Cars

This was just on FOX 5 News NY. A group of teens were stealing cars in NJ. Something like 17 teens were arrested and they blamed the video game for giving them ideas. They interviewed the police chief and he says he doesn't buy it. He said "That means if they play Medal of Honor, they are going to join the military". He also said most of them had prior convictions for stealing cars.

I couldn't help but laugh...

The chief seemed pretty intelligent. Usually everyone is quick to blame video games, but he had a very good retort.

I kept saying to myself, GTA is rated M, and a lot of the teens were minors. They said the youngest was 13. You know he's going to be successful... 🙂

Lol. On the local Fox news here tonight, they did a story on how Everquest is destroying people's lives. People are saying stuff like "You really can't play the game less than 20hrs a week".

It's always easier to blame someone else. What's that Shakespear line? "The fault lies not within our stars, but within ourselves"?

Kudos to the chief for actually knowing the title to a great current game (instead of just using the same old 'quake' or 'doom' stereotype) to use as his retort.
 
interestingly enough, i have been playing vice city this week and while driving IRL i have the uncanny urge to run over people on motorcycles. acting on it is another matter. kudos to this chief though.
 
This just confirms it further that people will blame anything so that they don't have to take responsibility for their actions.
