Teens are getting drugs easier...and quickly...where are your kids getting them?

I'm getting really sick of seeing this garbage on the news. It's like 90% of the world doesn't know how to use the internet so they create these witch hunts. Unfamiliarity breeds fear. The news programs literally portray myspace as a website designed to get 13 year old sex.....seriously, what kind of retard parent says 'oh that makes sense, one of the biggest websites on the net is run for 50 year old men to bung my 13 year old son.' or 'oh myspace is created so that my 15 year old can get black tar heroine". I guess west Nile, Bird Flu, and Iraq aren't hot stories anymore. I mean, ******, you could be walking down the sidewalk one day and get molested or yanked into a van...are we going to hear this on the news: "14 year old boys getting raped from walking down something called 'sidewalks'...apparently they're cement slabs designed to allow pedophiles easy access to minors, walking in straight lines"

You never once hear that Myspace was originally and still is a place for bands to get broader exposure for their music. I <3 ignorance.

edit in response to people wondering why i'm defending a website:
it's not the website, it's the constant barrage on the news about it. Guess what, when your kids go to the movies, mall, park, ball game, high school, sporting event, whatever, there's a CHANCE that someone could try and nab them, molestor them, whatever. But at some point as a parent you have to say 'ok, I"ve done a good job raising them, I've taught them how to avoid danger, and how to get out of a dangerous situation if they're in one". And if you HAVEN"T taught them ******, THEN you have a reason to worry, and your worry shouldn't be about 'myspace' it shoudl be about the ****** job you did raising your child, and realizing that the danger isn't JUST from some perv on myspace, it's from people at their school, sporting events, parties, whatever. The focus on myspace, like eliminating it would fix all your child's risk, is ridiculous. IT's taking away time and resources from confronting other REAL LIFE and more LEGITIMATE risks that exist for children today. There are users on myspace who are preying on underage children, but there are just as many at every other stage of a child's life, and there are other risks too that aren't getting put in the proper light, so that some jagoff news producer can get ratings fellation

Ok so what IS black tar herion anyway? My mom asked about it yesterday and I had never heard of it (Turns out Dr. Phil mentioned it)

This reminds me of the open letter to parents telling parents to sign up for AOL or MSN so their kids couldn't be hackers. Of course it was a joke letter, but given some people I've met it can sound spookily real.

A nasty crude form of herion

There was a fvcked up HBO documentary on this garbage that we watched in my health class in highschool.... talk about the lowest of low.

Excellent rant!!!
I too have seen myspace witch hunt reports on the local tv stations. 🙁

Like the op posted that myspace was for bands. It was also for college and adults to look. But then they started allowing all these middle school and highschool 13,14,15,16 on the website. Or they change there age to an older age just to join the website.

But yeah, these news people need to stop attacking myspace.

I saw that one. People had run out of veins to inject it in because of venous sclerosis (a condition where the veins narrow and harden, making injection there nearly impossible) so they started injecting it in the CORNER OF THEIR EYES! :Q Sounds like some good times. Who's in?

Normally I'd be up in arms like the rest of you. But in the case of Myspace, the only thing that makes me mad is that I have to hear about it again. If all this mass hysteria causes Myspace upheaval, I can only hope it ends with Myspace going away. So let them rant their ignorance now all they want, as long as it ends with Myspace's demise - which will be the only way to get through a day and not hear about how great, bad or retarded myspace is

For some ignorant people the internet is nothing but a way for ugly bald old fat men to lure children into sex. They will monitor and restrict their internet usage but then let their teenage daughters go out until 3am to some night club or rave party somewhere where they are even more likely to have somebody slip them a roofie (sp?) or something. . .Wherever kids and teens hang out, so will predators. They just don't stick out so sorely on the internet since it allows a high degree of anonymity. But yeah, I know what you mean. Lots of stories on the news about bad stuff done by people who happen to have accounts on Myspace. They always make it a point to mention Myspace. As if it were the cause of whatever happened or a factor somehow.

😕 You could say this about a lot of things. What exactly do you have against myspace?

It's dip$hits like you that are going to end up getting it shut down and ruin it for everybody including the legitimate users.

That may be what myspace started as but thats not what its becomming. Sure there are still good bands there trying to get publicity. But they are now in the minority. I can't stand most of the pages there anyways. Flashy 'hurt-your-eyes' colors, autorunning videos and audio, not to mention all the pre-teens showing their T&A off trying to make themsleves feel pretty.

hahaha it would be a tragedy, wouldnt it?

I hate that I thought of this the other day but I did, and that was the fact that if I were still in highschool and a dealer then I'd use myspace to set up most if not all of my deals. I mean honestly, if you were a dealer it would be an awesome tool by which to distribute. You only deal with the people on your "friends list" and set up a code system by which they buy from you. It could also help you run a tighter operation as far as keeping it discreet and having less chance of getting busted because you just work out the deal and the logistics before hand.

i.e. tell joe to leave you $xx.xx at so and so place. Then you message back with the location to get your stuff. making it a new place each time.

Man, I'm thinking this through too much.

For the record I have no love for myspace and only signed up to veiw some chicks music and her pics once. I believe if you're over 25 (I'm 29) you have no business being on there. you should have a life by then to the point where you don't need that.

So then people shouldn't make personal webpages/blogs if they are over over 25?

I'm just sick of hearing about it. My attitude was indifferent about it until it became pop culture. Now I ask a girl for her phone number, or give her my own "call me if you want to go out sometime". "Oh do you have myspace? What is your myspace name." Ummm no just call me or I'll assume your uninterested, my online life is deluded enough, and no I don't have AIM either.

Everyone of my friends asking me to get on myspace, "oh its so awesome." Why? So I can see what kind of music you like? What your hobbys are? I know you dipsh!t, I know what music you like because we just went to the Ministry concert last night. So every page thats loaded looks like sh!t because people suck at designing readable websites? Black background on dark gray text doesn't work, I mean did you even try to read your own hobbys when you designed this sh!t? And why does everyone have to have music playing, and flash animations everywhere, and retarded "marquee" style scrolling nonsense?

Then you get invites daily about girls that don't exist, "I want to get to know you better." You look at her pic and its got alissonangel.com in the lower right hand side. If your going to use an obviously fake pic, at least photochop the .com out, or rename the file so it doesn't say katesplayground.com on it. How retarded are people? Then I have other friends "check out this hot chick who is my friend on myspace." Dude, did you even notice that thats really just Pamala Anderson right before she was in playboy?

Any way, all that aside - myspace is awesome for a lot of things, talking to lesser known bands or even well known bands will sometimes respond to you. My roommates like that they are now in communication with old High School people and all that. I have no desire to touch base with old flames or anything, especially when their married and have kids. If I had a desire to stay in touch with them, I could have done it without myspace. I don't need people I barely remember emailing me messages. So let me get this strait, your old gf is talking to you on myspace, she is married and has kids but your still replying? Why?

Its just me I guess, but I feel better wasting my time in other ways. Well that sure turned out to be a long rant.
