I'm getting really sick of seeing this garbage on the news. It's like 90% of the world doesn't know how to use the internet so they create these witch hunts. Unfamiliarity breeds fear. The news programs literally portray myspace as a website designed to get 13 year old sex.....seriously, what kind of retard parent says 'oh that makes sense, one of the biggest websites on the net is run for 50 year old men to bung my 13 year old son.' or 'oh myspace is created so that my 15 year old can get black tar heroine". I guess west Nile, Bird Flu, and Iraq aren't hot stories anymore. I mean, ******, you could be walking down the sidewalk one day and get molested or yanked into a van...are we going to hear this on the news: "14 year old boys getting raped from walking down something called 'sidewalks'...apparently they're cement slabs designed to allow pedophiles easy access to minors, walking in straight lines"
You never once hear that Myspace was originally and still is a place for bands to get broader exposure for their music. I <3 ignorance.
edit in response to people wondering why i'm defending a website:
it's not the website, it's the constant barrage on the news about it. Guess what, when your kids go to the movies, mall, park, ball game, high school, sporting event, whatever, there's a CHANCE that someone could try and nab them, molestor them, whatever. But at some point as a parent you have to say 'ok, I"ve done a good job raising them, I've taught them how to avoid danger, and how to get out of a dangerous situation if they're in one". And if you HAVEN"T taught them ******, THEN you have a reason to worry, and your worry shouldn't be about 'myspace' it shoudl be about the ****** job you did raising your child, and realizing that the danger isn't JUST from some perv on myspace, it's from people at their school, sporting events, parties, whatever. The focus on myspace, like eliminating it would fix all your child's risk, is ridiculous. IT's taking away time and resources from confronting other REAL LIFE and more LEGITIMATE risks that exist for children today. There are users on myspace who are preying on underage children, but there are just as many at every other stage of a child's life, and there are other risks too that aren't getting put in the proper light, so that some jagoff news producer can get ratings fellation
