Teenagers Order Takeout at Fatal Crash Site
Tuesday, November 25, 2008

Australian teenagers involved in a fatal car crash sat down and ordered takeout food as rescuers fought to save an 82-year-old man and his 72-year-old partner, News.com.au reported.

The cars collided at a roundabout in Miami, a town on Australia's Gold Coast. The teenagers were riding in an unregistered Suburu WRX with an unlicensed driver.

Residents near the roundabout were outraged when they came to the aid of the elderly couple and saw the teenagers standing motionless on the sidewalk. They said none of the teens attempted to help.

"They just stood there, and then they sat down and then someone dropped Maccas off to them," a witness told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

Using the Jaws of Life to cut the roof off the elderly couple?s van, the woman suffered from abdominal and leg injuries, while the man suffered from fatal chest injuries.

After the police interviewed the teenagers on the scene, the driver was charged with obstruction while the other teens were arrested but not charged.

How could they be "involved" and only this happen?

After the police interviewed the teenagers on the scene, the driver was charged with obstruction while the other teens were arrested but not charged.

From TFA:

Broadbeach police Sergeant Brendon O'Reilly said the Subaru and its owner were known to police - the vehicle had been impounded for 48 hours on November 13 in relation to hooning offences.

I have no idea what "hooning offences" are, but it sounds like these kids are pretty much useless. Lock 'em up.

I hate articles written online by cultures outside of my own, I don't understand half of the items referenced, Maccas? What the hell? The other day I was reading a UK new report about a guy hit by a car on his way across the road to buy "fizzy drink" - fizzy drink? idiots!

So, you have no idea what caused the accident, what hooning offences are but think the kids should be locked up because???

The driver should be locked up for manslaughter.

Some of you guys need to travel more!

Maccas = McDonalds
Fizzy Drinks = Soda
Hoon = Racing or driving dangerously

But I have to say serious news articles shouldn't use slang.

those jaws of life must be really dangerous to cause all that harm to the poor elderly couple using them

I agree with the locked up, but not for being useless at after the accident, but for the actual cause if she/he actually was at fault. Being a unlicensed driver in an un-registered car does seem to lean towards some malfeasance.

Also just as a fellow human, most people try to offer some sort of help when they are right at the scene of a problem. To order food for delivery seems pretty calloused while you are just watching some die in the car you hit.
