Ugh. Sometimes people just disgust me. Suicide is an awfully selfish act in the first place, but to take innocent lives in the process...disgraceful.

It's the parent's fault for not noticing their daughter was suicidal. They should have sensed something was wrong and done something about it.

Jeez. A similar thing happened not too long ago in Skokie. A twenty something girl intentionally rear ended another car at stop light to kill herself. Killed the three people in the car but not herself. Utter waste. Personally, I think they should get life w/o parole. Let them live with what they done and deny them the way out that they wanted so bad.

I feel really bad for the kid too. Imagine growing up knowing that your mother was killed in such a senseless and unhonorable manner, just wisked away from you because someone was having a bad day

:(

Poor kid:(

Kids are ignorant fools.

That said, they are responsible for her and her actions, so yeah, they are fvked.

Give me a break. It's the daughter's fault. Not her parents. Maybe some day in this world, people will be held responsible for their own actions.

Truly, almost nothing good can come of this except perhaps the chance at a rather normal life for the poor middle child:(

Money is worthless when you have no one to share it with.
The smiles on the faces of your friends and family are forever priceless.

The the legal guardians, and its not so much that she won't take responsibility, but as a matter ofa law, the parents fall under the umbrella of responsibility and in this case are open to [ 'OMFG THEY ARE GOING TO ABSOLUTELY DESTROY US IN THE COURT"] litigation

depends on what the local laws are. in some areas in Civil court case's the parents are responsible for what the minor does.

If anything, the precendent has already been set by greedy lawyers in prior cases who are always on the news.

We're not talking about shoplifting here. We're talking about murder or at the very least manslaughter. The 16-year-old knew what she was doing and that somebody else (besides herself) might be hurt or killed.

If you truly think it would be OK to blame the parents for this horrific act, it just confirms one thing. The wussification of America continues.

Reporters should always include the make, model, and year of the cars involved in an accident. As a public service to drivers everywhere. I think in this case they only mentioned the brand of car because one was a Mercedes. Generally that kind of info gets omitted in these stories.

this is not wussification. this is the fact that she killed the mother of children. she took away something very important from the kids. this is permantaly damaging the vision of a child.

this about paying for what she did. yes it sucks the parents will end up paying but that is life.

This is a civil case. not the criminal case.

I wouldn't be so noble about it. It's truly an examplem, perhaps, depending on how thingspaly out, of the opertunism of Americans. That said, I wouldn't argue with the family if they sued them to kingdom come, but if I may say so, that will not bring back their daughter. In addition, it wouldn't be hard to beleive that a relative or soem third party interested in moeny convinced them to go after the parents' bank accounts.

In case case most peopel probably feel bad for both parties.

One lost a daughter and, it seems, any grief they show will probably be seen as ingenuine.

The other lost a mom, lost hte possibility of a healthy future for the sun.

In the end, both lost their chance at normally which is really tragic.

I msut comment though that our greatest heroes are born out of tragedy.
